“You’ve forgotten champagne’s rival for best early morning beverage,” Darcy said. “Bloody Marys.”

“You should’ve led with that.” Doc grinned. Her cell phone rang and she pulled it out of her back pocket to look at the screen. “It’s my mother.”

“Did you tell her you’re getting married?” Brooklyn asked.

“Yeah. I sent her a text.”

“You didn’t,” I said with a laugh.

“If you knew my mother, you’d get it,” Doc said. “I should’ve sent her an email.” She sighed. “I better answer it. How much more do you think I can piss her off?”

“Tell her your wedding is being catered by The Crab Shack,” Darcy suggested.

“Stellar!” Doc said. “Hello, Mother. Hey, guess what…”

The sun set and we were all full of food. The guys had been imbibing on moonshine, but the rest of us were pacing ourselves.

Gray and Colt lit the bonfire and we sat on logs and camp chairs. Dylan perched next to Waverly, their legs touching.

My eyes met Duke’s across the blaze. His gaze said everything in that moment.

“I meant to tell you,” Mia said, addressing Waverly, “I dig the shirt.”

Waverly grinned. “Thanks.”

“Want me to show you how to make it cooler?” Mia asked.

“What did you have in mind?” Waverly asked.

“T-Shirt cutting,” Mia explained. “I have to put Scarlett down. You want to come with me and then I’ll show you?”

Waverly looked at Dylan. “You mind if I leave you alone?”

“Go for it.” Dylan ran a hand through his tousled brown hair. “I can handle myself.”

Zip pounded him on the back. “We’ll keep him entertained.”

“I feel like I should be worried. Should I be worried?” Waverly asked, but she hopped up anyway and followed Mia into the clubhouse.

“She’s completely come out of her shell,” Brooklyn said, adjusting her body in her chair.

“She’s even managed to get Torque to talk,” Slash said. He sat next to his wife and took her hand in his. “How the hell did she accomplish that?”

“I have a younger sister about Waverly’s age. She’s at boarding school on the East Coast—she’s into horses. Torque pays her tuition—loves her like his own sister. Anyway, I think Waverly reminds him of her. They should meet,” Allison said. “When my sister’s back for the summer.”

“That would be great,” I said.

My eyes wandered across the fire and fixated on Duke. He was listening to Savage talk, but when Duke’s gaze met mine again, he ever so slightly inclined his head.

I took a sip of beer and then stood up. “I’m going to hit the restroom.” I stretched my arms over my head and then sauntered into the house, making sure to put an extra little sway into my hips because I knew Duke was watching.

The screen door slammed shut and I headed to the second-floor bathroom. I sent Duke a text telling him where I’d gone.

Nerves of anticipation swirled in my belly as I waited for him to make his appearance.

A slight knock sounded on the door and I quickly unlocked it and opened it. He entered and then closed the door.

Electricity crackled between us and when his hands reached out to grasp my hips, my knees went weak. He guided me back against the sink and slid one of his thighs between my legs and pressed against my cleft.
