“You’re Wonder Woman,” Mia said. “Juggling everything that you are.”

“You’re juggling a lot too, you know,” I said with a laugh.

She grinned. “I forget I’m only a few years older than you.”

“Sometimes I forget I’m twenty-four. There are days I feel ancient.” I shook my head. “Life changes a lot in a short amount of time, doesn’t it?”

“It does. It really does,” Mia agreed.

The next morning, Waverly was out of the house by ten. Jessica came by to pick her up and then they were off to get Dylan. They were going to see a movie and get some food. The day was supposed to be easy and I shouldn’t have been worried.

So why was I?

At one o’clock on the dot, I showed up at Brooklyn’s house. Not only had she catered Doc’s engagement brunch, but she was hosting it. A long table had been set up so we could dine alfresco. There were twinkle fairy lights in the trees, and votives in mason jars on the table.

“Is that—did you hire a bartender?” I asked Brooklyn.

“Where’s the fun in making your own cocktails,” she said with a grin. “We’ve got Bloody Marys, Blackberry Mojitos, Bellinis, and Espresso martinis. Virgin options for the several of us who can’t imbibe.”

“I’m imbibing,” Allison announced. “Well, I’ll have one and then switch to virgins. Tank hates the bottle. He prefers my nipples.”

Darcy sniggered. “I’m pretty sure he’s not the only one.”

The two of them stepped up to the bar and ordered their drinks.

“The place is gorgeous. You guys outdid yourselves,” Mia said to Brooklyn, Brielle, and Jazz.

“We’re the magic musketeers of catering,” Jazz said. “I’ve earned my cocktails today though.”

“Same,” Brielle moaned, rubbing her head.

“It’s hair of the dog for you,” Jazz teased her friend.

“Rough night last night?” I asked her.

“My mother set me up on a date,” she recounted. “I needed three tequila shots before appetizers just to find him interesting.”

“Where does your mother find these guys to set you up with?” I asked.

“Let’s see. The hardware store, the plant nursery, the vet… Last night’s winner-winner-chicken-dinner was from the grocery store.”

“Grocery stores aren’t a terrible place to meet men,” Joni said.

“When I pinned my mother down and asked her what section of the store he was in, she said the frozen food aisle. After meeting him, I’m guessing his cart was full of Hot Pockets.”

“Ew.” Mia winced.

“You need a decoy,” I said to her.

“A decoy?” Brielle frowned. “I’m not following.”

The three of us stepped up to the bar. “I’ll have a Bloody Mary, please.”

“Make that two,” Jazz said.

“Make it three,” Brielle added.

“You got it.” The bartender flipped his shaker and scooped ice.
