“When did you sign? Was it today? Maybe we can have it voided. Maybe there’s still time,” he says frantically.

“What? No! Dad, please listen to me. I’m an adult, and I’m capable of making my own decisions. You can’t expect me to spend my entire life under your thumb, writing songs for your people with no hope of ever getting to do the one thing I want more than anything in this world. All I want to do is sing, Dad. Why is that so impossible? Why is that so wrong?” I plead with him, desperately trying to make him understand just how badly I want this. If I could just make him understand.

“Everything is going to be okay. I just need to call your uncle, and we’ll figure something out. He’ll talk to Sonomi and explain that it was all a misunderstanding,” he says as if he hadn’t heard a single word I just said.

“I signed a contract. I work for Sonomi Sagawa now!”

That gets his attention. His face hardens, and his jaw clenches up. He stares at me intently for a few moments.

“Mari, listen,” Dad says. “I know that you’re not a kid anymore. And I know that youthinkyou know everything there is to know about everything. But please just trust me when I tell you that Sonomi is not someone you want to be indebted to. She has a way of talking people into things. Things that they would never do otherwise. The atmosphere behind the scenes at Siren Studios is one that seems luxurious, but it is unhealthy and unsafe. It’s why your mother…” He squeezes his eyes shut for a moment before continuing, “It’s why your mother made the choices she did.”

“Dammit, Dad, I’m not Mom!”

“Listen to me,” Dad says, his voice a mixture of anger and sadness, “I love you and your sister more than anything, and I will do whatever it takes to protect you. And that is why I am forbidding you from working at Siren.”

“Forbidding me? What does that mean?” I ask, afraid of what the answer will be.

“It means I forbid it, Mari. You may legally be an adult, but I’m still your dad, and as long as you live under my roof, you will follow my rules.”

“Whoa, hold on a second!” Honey interrupts, stepping forward so that she’s standing halfway between our dad and me. “Dad, I know Mari fucked up, ok. But can we please all just take a moment to cool down? Can’t we sort this out without resorting to ultimatums?”

“You’re not helping,” Dad says to Honey. “We can fix this, but we need to arrange a meeting with Sonomi as soon as possible.”

“You can’t be serious?” I ask him, unable to keep the hurt from my voice.

“I’m dead serious, Mari. This isn’t a joke.”

“Ok. Fine, I guess I don’t live under your roof anymore,” I say. Dad tilts his head and narrows his eyes.

“What the hell are you talking about?” he asks, sounding both confused and aggravated.

“I have my own apartment now at Siren Studios. It’s a part of my contract,” I say, doing my best to keep any emotion from showing on my face.

My dad gives me a momentary pleading look before straightening back up, hard-set resolve on his face.

“Fine,” he says.

“Great!” Honey shouts, throwing up her hands as she turns to leave the room. The hot sting in my eyes is back. I turn my head so my hair falls in front of my face just enough to hide the tears. I want to say more. I want so badly to make him understand, but it’s no use. I can’t let him see me crying. He has to see that I’m a grown woman capable of running my own life. And grown, capable women don’t cry like babies when they have an argument with their parents because they’ve finally taken control of their own lives. I turn away slowly until my back is to my dad, clearing my throat to keep from letting out a sob.

“I love you, Dad. But I have to do this,” I say before starting toward my bedroom to gather up my things. I'll have to come back when no one is home to get the rest of my stuff, as I had planned to spend at least one last night here at home before officially moving out. So much for that. I grab a backpack from the back of my closet and quickly stuff it with a few pairs of socks, underwear, and some toiletries. I gather it up along with my purse and laptop bag and take one last look around my bedroom. It looks pale and worn. I shut off the light and head for the front door with my car keys in hand. I know I’m doing the right thing.

JOSEF

The wind blows my cabin door open, making a loud knocking sound as it swings around and hits the wall.

“So, do you have my clothes, or what?” Mari Yumiko asks. The petite woman is standing there wearing nothing but sexy red high-heel shoes. There’s a storm with thunder booming and lightning flashing behind her. Framed by the doorway, the whole picture looks like a beautiful, live painting being affected by the weather outside.

Mari’s long, black hair with red streaks is a sexy mess being blown around her face; that’s just so cute it’s unbelievably beautiful. Her eyes are blinking with her large round irises slightly covered on the tops and bottoms by almond-shaped eyelids. Her mouth is open a little, revealing just a few pearly white teeth forming a teasing smile.

“I’m sorry. I don’t have your clothes here.” I answer, moving back on my small bed to sit up with my back against the headboard to take in all of her gorgeous, bronzed nude body in this portrait-like setting. Mari’s firm, round breasts are not large but not too small. They are perfectly sized in proportion to her body, with perfectly round caramel areolas and hard, pointing nipples. An hourglass torso frames a toned stomach above the straight line of her shaved pussy.

“Well, you're just going to have to take yours off then,” Mari says, strutting to the side of my bed.

“Yes, Mari,” I say, quickly pulling my shirt over my head and flinging it away.

“Faster!” she commands, clapping her hands and bending one leg to put one of her sexy shoes on the mattress. I lift my legs to pull my boxers off faster than I took my shirt off. The underwear gets tossed to the other side of my cabin.
