“Still too much,” she whimpers in my ear.

I push back on my legs and quickly free myself of the rest of my clothing. Juliette watches me, her eyes dark with lust as her hand moves to the apex of her thighs, and she rubs her clit. Sounds that will fill every fantasy for the rest of my life escape her lips before I position myself between her legs.

Gripping my hard cock, I run the tip up and down her slick folds before gingerly pushing inside her. Her inner muscles tighten for a second before she can relax enough to allow me in further.

“You’re so tight,” I say between gritted teeth, but loving the hold she has on me.

We take our time, savoring every movement, every moment between us. The friction of our bodies moving as one pushes us closer to the edge. I’m lost in the sounds she makes, the salty taste of her skin, and the feel of her body molding perfectly to mine.

The pulse of her inner muscles tightening lets me know that she is nearly there. I thrust my hips harder to sheath myself even deeper inside her. Juliette digs her nails into my shoulders to hold on. It’s both painful and glorious. She’s marking me on the outside the way she’s marked herself on my heart. I lean down into the crook of her neck.

“I love you,” I whisper.

The tiny gasp she makes lets me know she heard each word. I pull back to meet her heated gaze and find the love I’m feeling mirror back at me. It’s crazy how quickly we’ve fallen, but when you know, why fight it?

Juliette breaks eye contact first as her eyes flutter back, and I know she’s coming. A few more pumps, and I’m right there with her, stepping off the edge of orgasmic bliss and into the unknown.

We lay in bed next to one another. My head rests on his bare chest, and I can hear each strong beat of his heart. The same heart he told me was mine, now and forever. How can two strangers fall so quickly for one another, and yet it feels so right? Roman sees me in a way I don’t even see myself. There is a confidence in him that believes in me, and it’s infectious.

Ever since I told him about my idea to write a book, he’s talked about it like it’s a done deal. There is no hesitation in his eyes or his smile, or his voice when he talks about it. And I can’t help but begin to feel the same way.

“I got you something,” Roman says, as his fingertips trail delicate lines up and down my bare back.

“For Valentine’s Day?” I ask.

“Not in the traditional sense of a Valentine’s Day gift.”

“So, no chocolate?” I tease. “I mean, we did put in quite the workout tonight. After that third time on your kitchen table, I’m starving.”

Roman chuckles and kisses the top of my head. “I promise to get you some food, but first, I want to give you something else.”

He starts to sit up, and I move my head, so he can get out of bed. I hold the sheet tight over my naked breast as I admire Roman’s perfectly sculpted ass move across the floor towards the sofa.

There’s a pink bag with white hearts sitting on the edge that I didn’t notice until now. But that’s understandable, seeing as my attention was on other things since arriving.

Roman pads softly across the hardwood floor back toward the bed and hands me the bag.

“You shouldn’t have gotten me anything.”

“I saw it, and I knew that I had to get it for you,” he says and sits down next to me.

The excited grin on his face makes me smile, too, as I pull out the tissue paper. I reach in and pull out a leather-bound journal with something printed on the front.

I read the inscription out loud. “If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday.”

Inside, on the first page, it explains the quote is from American novelist Pearl S. Buck.

“I thought that you’d need a journal to take notes for your book. And the quote on the front seemed fitting for this adventure.”

“I love it,” I say, running my fingers over the words before glancing over at him. “And I love you too.”

Roman’s eyes widen but not nearly as wide as his smile does when my words sink in. He crushes his lips against mine, and we both fall back onto the bed. Almost as soon as my head hits the mattress, there is a loud banging on the door to Roman’s apartment.

Roman jumps up and pulls on his jeans just as the door bursts open. All the blood drains from my face when I lock eyes with Ben. There’s a moment when the world around us gets silent, but just as quickly, it’s like the volume is turned back up at the highest level.
