“Aurora!”

“Okay, I saw a girl at college with it, recognised it, and stole it!” Aurora blurted and looked so guilty I tried not to laugh.

“You nicked it?” I drawled.

“Yes! I’m a thief Klutz, a bad person,” Aurora wailed, and I burst into laughter and dragged her close. She sounded so miserable; I felt sorry for teasing her.

“It’s okay, baby, I won’t call the cops. But Aurora, where is the board?”

A sly expression came over her face. “In a secure place no one will ever find, nor will it curse me as it’s not kept here!”

“A safe deposit box,” I guessed, and her mouth dropped open. “Don’t play poker.”

Aurora smacked my ribs and tickled me as we wrestled for a few minutes. We stopped when my cock hardened and poked at her happily.

“Oh,” she muttered, eyeing my boxers with suspicion.

“What can I say? He fucking adores you!” I chuckled, climbed out of bed, and tripped over thin air as usual.

“Where are you going?” Aurora demanded as I walked to the door.

“Honey, we need a shower, and then I want to discuss something with you. It’s important, and if we hang around here, we won’t talk, and then I’ll forget!” I said and nearly laughed at the pout aimed in my direction.

Life with Aurora Victoria would never be boring, and I saw a lot of laughter in my future.

???

I made coffee, and although Aurora wasn’t a big drinker of it, I was. I was cooking breakfast when she sauntered in, looking adorably bright and alert. She wore a cheerful smile as she walked across to me, wrapped her arms around my back, and snuggled in.

“Hey baby,” I said, and Aurora produced a rude little noise before grabbing her mug. I turned to pick up mine and stared in disbelief as I lifted the handle and not the mug. What the fuck? Aurora giggled as my klutz curse kicked in, and I reached for a fresh cup, only to have a dish nearly fall on my head. I scowled at the cupboard but finally got the mug and poured the coffee into it.

“You sounded serious upstairs, and I sense a big change. So please tell me what you’re thinking,” Aurora asked.

“You know I mentioned me returning to college to become a veterinarian like Rosie?” I asked, and Aurora’s eyes took on a glazed stare. It was something I noted she did when she searched her feelings.

“You signed up!” Aurora said finally, and I grinned at her. Relief hit me because I’d worried about a drastic career change. Because of my medical experience, the professor I’d spoken to thought I could whizz past a lot of stuff. Of course, I’d be operating as a vet and not a surgeon, but the two professions had much in common despite their apparent differences.

As I watched, her eyes clouded over, and Aurora seemed to drift away from me, her excitement fading and a pensive expression crossing her face. Her gaze cleared, and she offered a sad smile.

“What did you see?” I sought whilst touching her cheek gently.

“An upheaval. And it’ll be today. And then towards the weekend, I see somebody from the past reaching out and a big upset,” Aurora whispered.

“No details?” I asked.

“No, but there’s an impending intrusion into our lives, which will be upsetting and distracting. Cruel words will be spoken, and someone will seek to undermine your future.” Aurora offered a little shudder, and my eyes narrowed. This had distressed her, and I hated that.

“Baby, let’s dress and confront the day boldly. Because whatever is thrown at me doesn’t mean shit as long as you’re by my side,” I responded, and a beautiful smile crossed her face.

“I love you!” she exclaimed and launched into my arms.

“Good, because without you, Aurora Victoria, there’s no light in my life!”

???

Aurora wasn’t kidding when she mentioned a significant upheaval today. I stared at the paper and shook my head in disbelief. No fucking way! Seriously, this was a betrayal, and I wanted to rip someone’s throat out. On the front of the newspaper was a picture of me kneeling over somebody and working to save their life. The headline screamed, ‘Local Hero ignores tragic past to save lives!’ Yeah, someone was going to be wearing concrete boots.

Aurora and I stood in the store and stared in horror. My girl had gone to get coffee and seen this and come racing back. There was a smaller picture of her outside the shop with a caption, ‘Hero’s physic warned him about the accident.’
