“Hi,” I replied. And could have slapped my head. Talk about a scintillating conversation.

“How are you settling in?” I asked.

“Bad. The people who rented Grandpa’s house wrecked it. Rock and Apache are coming over to see what repairs I need, and I’m looking at an expansion while I am at it. It’s a cute two-bedroom cottage, but it needs some serious development. The good news is I put an offer on a shop opposite Casey’s, and it was accepted,” she answered, smiling.

“Lot to unpick there. Tell me about the cottage,” I suggested.

Aurora smiled as Harley brought her over a beer, and she took it from him.

“It’s a two up and two down. I think that’s what it’s called. A kitchen and living room downstairs and two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. I don’t have a land issue, as it sits on half an acre. But I’d prefer a bigger kitchen and study if I work from home. I also require a laundry and wet room because I want to get a dog, and I’m not having a muddy puppy ruining the furniture.

“I need at least four bedrooms upstairs, three bathrooms, and hopefully a cloakroom. Oh, and a pantry! And the attic needs to be converted into a playroom for kids. The problem is it’s built of stone, and Apache said the stone it’s made from is expensive. Not much of an issue, but Apache said it would take a while to order. So, I’m cramped at the moment and unhappy about it.”

“I understand,” I replied, and I did. I’d not bought a house in the end but lived with Hunter, Savage, and Slate until Hunter moved out.

“Also want a sunroom. I love the sun and like to sit in one and read. Apache suggested he could build a wraparound porch too, so I can have a hammock and a swing,” Aurora replied with delight.

I smiled at her with evident joy.

“Now you said you bought a shop?” I sought curiously.

“Yup. I plan to open a mystical store with tarots and other witchy items to sell, and I’ll be doing readings there,” Aurora responded, and my jaw dropped.

“Did you just say woo woo shop?” I asked, stunned.

“Yes. Close your mouth, Klutz. I am not crazy or insane, nor am I a fraud. I do tarot cards and read people. Don’t communicate with ghosts, although I believe they exist. I wish to open a shop that allows me to continue reading and sell items to help people. Klutz, I’m a trained herbalist like Casey, only I can’t create shit for love or money. Casey is going to supply my goods, and we’ll both earn some good cash from it. We’ll have our own range, Casey and Aurora’s Witchy Cures.”

“You really read people?” I asked, interested. This was something unusual. I’d not met a psychic before.

“Okay, let me tell you this. Uncle Slick is going to fall for a gardener who’s gonna give him merry hell for a while. There is something bad coming to Rage which will force folk to act in their self-interests. It’ll ricochet through the club, affecting old ladies too. I see two instances where women are affected by a decision. There’s something awful moving towards Mac and Casey. I sense fire and explosions, but I don’t know why. I also see cars falling in the road, but I do not understand; the images aren’t clear. And I realised that you’re my soul mate,” Aurora said abruptly, and my mouth fell open.

“Erm…”

“Very eloquent, Klutz. But whether or not you wish to admit it, you are very attracted to me, and something in your heart calls to you when I’m around. It’s okay. I know what the rules are. And I can wait for you to gain brother before we date. But you and I are on as soon as you have that patch.” Aurora patted my leg, smiled, and sashayed away, leaving me speechless.

Holy shit.

Aurora

I struggled against the bonds holding me tightly and sobbed quietly. When I mentioned something evil would happen to Mac and Casey, I didn’t expect to be in the middle. But I was. And even worse, no one realised we were missing. My mind switched to Klutz. We’d talked earlier, but he wasn’t expecting a call or anything from me. Casey and Mac had also been taken by these assholes and knocked unconscious. Since I was not a threat to them, they’d left me alone, and I was blindfolded. That terrified the life out of me.

The door banged open, and I jumped in the seat as much as possible. I was shaking in my boots, wondering if one of those men had returned to hurt me. They had kept muttering about me being the property of Rage and how valuable I was. I’d no idea what was happening, but I was scared shitless.

“Aurora, it’s Casey. Do not say a word. I’m bringing in bodies,” Casey said, and I relaxed and nodded. Somehow, Casey had broken free and found me.

Casey talked while she did something with the bodies. I just hoped she was covering them up. Finally, she removed the blindfold, and I saw her face. Casey had a grim, determined look that reassured me bucket loads. Behind her was a huddle that I guessed was dead men.

“Knew you’d come,” I gasped in relief. And somehow, despite my fear, I had known that. Casey wasn’t the type to leave anyone.

“Aurora, I may not be officially Delta Force, but as an honoured member, I sure swallowed their purpose,” Casey whispered with a grin. Casey untied me, and I bit my lip against the rush of pins and needles that flooded my body. She offered a sympathetic smile as she rubbed feeling into my arms.

“Honey, we need to get you out, and I have to find Mac,” Casey informed me when I relaxed.

“They separated us,” I replied, stating the obvious. I wondered why they’d done that. To me, it seemed pointless.

“Guessed that. That’s the only clever thing they’ve done. Can you shoot?” Casey asked, and I must have looked horrified as she smiled slightly.

“No. But after today, I think I need to learn.”
