“Well, I’m glad I was able to come along and show you what not to do,” he said.

“I’m glad you came along and got me out of my own head,” I said. “I really do mean that. You made this fun, and I really do think that we found what we need for the new place.”

“Great,” Greyson said. “I really did have fun today.”

I smiled. I didn’t know him very well, but I was willing to let some of my walls down around him. He was a good man. I could see that, and I appreciated the effort he was putting forth in this. It meant a lot to me that he was willing to work with me on this, that was for sure.

And to know that we still had a lot of work to do made me feel good, too.

It meant that we still had more time to spend together. It might not mean anything outside of the work we were doing, but that was okay with me. I was having fun with this.

And if he was, too, then I felt that it wasn’t wasted time in any sense.

After all, I was finding that I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with Greyson.

And I was okay with spending more time with him, too.

I wasn’t picky.

ELEVEN

TWO DAYS LATER

Greyson

“Thanks, take it easy,”I said to my Uber driver as I slid out of the car.

I had spent most of the day flying the plane. Not for any real reason but to get off the ground for a while. I loved being in the air. Kenton often told me he hadn’t ever met anyone with their head more in the clouds than me, and I took that as a compliment.

Being up in the sky was being home for me. I felt like I had the most freedom in the air, and I could really and truly be myself.

Not that I had trouble with being myself when I was down and around people, but there was just something so freeing about being up in the sky that I loved. It really made me want to embrace it over and over again, so whenever I was grounded either between work, or, in this case, for an extended job, I was happy to get out and fly just for the sake of flying.

I wasn’t sure what Laurel would be doing with her day, but after she’d told me the day before that she was happy with the selections we’d made, I figured she would be busy with her client rather than cruising around and doing more shopping, so she likely wasn’t going to miss me if I were to take off for a while.

Literally.

I walked into the hotel restaurant. It was located right next to the bar, but there wasn’t the same selection of alcohol offered. It wasn’t nearly as busy as the bar in the middle of the afternoon, either. But then, that was Florida. It seemed like everyone here was on vacation.

Even those who were working seemed like they were on vacation, and I could only imagine what it would be like to live here all the time. There was a part of me that would love to do it for the mere fact that it was a lot warmer than New York City. But, I didn’t think I would like the same kind of weather all the time.

I knew they had their seasons, too, but it wasn’t the same as back home. I loved the changing seasons during the holidays, and I didn’t think I would have as much fun down here. But, it still just made sense that the bar would be so busy this time of day, and it was nice to find Laurel sitting in the restaurant with a plate nearby.

“Hey,” I said. “You look like you’ve eaten. You mind if I join you and get something?”

“Sure,” she said. “I’m just crunching numbers right now. I had the beachcomber sandwich. It’s really good if you’re in the mood for something light and refreshing.”

“I’m going for a club myself,” I told her. “Much more of a multi-species kind of guy when it comes to what I shove between two pieces of bread.”

“Thank God you went that route and didn’t make it dirty,” she said.

I gave her a look before I got the joke, then I laughed.

“That’s a good one, but I don’t think even I would be bold enough to tell an attractive woman what I enjoy shoving between a nice set of buns.” I winked. She flushed red. She might have been the one to make the implication of the joke, but when I was the one who took it all the way, it was more than she was able to handle.

But, I was okay with that. I loved seeing her blush.

The fact that I was able to have that kind of effect on her made me feel on top of the world, really. Not that I would ever make a move on a coworker, but then, I could argue that we were just being paid by the same person. It wasn’t as though we were really coworkers, right?
