I smiled.

For some reason, I wasn’t worried.

It was a first for me, and I was okay with it. But, I trusted him to get me to Seattle in time to take care of the hotel, and everything would work out as it should.

There was something about Greyson that just made me feel like I could trust him no matter what, and that was one of the best feelings in the entire world. I knew he would never do a thing to hurt me, and that he wanted what was best for me.

I could trust this man. I didn’t have to be on guard with him or keep up those walls in case he wasn’t being genuine. That wasn’t who Greyson was, and I knew it.

I chose to trust him.

And I always would.

TWENTY-FIVE

Greyson

I felta surge of adrenaline run through me when I stepped out of my Uber ride and had the part in hand.

It wasn’t the biggest part by any means, but it was damn important, and with the way Laurel looked at me, I felt that I really was saving her world. But, I wasn’t going to make a show of that. I knew I still had to call my friend and talk to him about how to get this piece on properly.

I’d fixed the plane before with an issue like this, but this was the first time that I had to do it without Kenton being right there to tell me what to do. It worried me a bit to think that I would have to make sure I knew where things went and how to put it together properly without having someone to check it when I was done, but I also knew that I could call and talk to Kenton directly.

So, that’s what I did.

“Is that the part?” Laurel asked when I walked up.

“It is,” I told her. “And once it’s on, we can get going.”

“Great,” she said with a smile. “Three hours to Seattle, that’s not bad. How long does it take to get this part on?”

“I’m going to call Kenton and have him give me the play by play to put this on. That way, I’ll know it’s absolutely on right, and we don’t have anything to worry about when we get in the air,” I explained.

“That’s a good thing,” she said with a little nervous laugh. “I would rather not worry about the plane falling apart when we’re several thousand feet up.”

“Don’t worry,” I told her. “If I wasn’t absolutely certain that I had this fixed, I wouldn’t dream of taking you up there. I would never do anything to put you in danger, and I want you to know that.”

“I trust you,” she said with a smile.

Again, I felt the surge of adrenaline run through me. There was just something about the way she said she trusted me that made me feel like the most powerful person on the planet. I felt I could handle anything I had to with this plane, and it wouldn’t be an issue in the slightest.

When she put that kind of trust in me, I didn’t worry about the things that might go wrong. I felt that I had the power to do anything, and with the right direction from Kenton, I would be up and in the air in no time. He knew I was going to be calling, and he answered right away.

“Glad you’re around,” I said when he picked up the phone.

“After the conversation we had yesterday, it was a no-brainer,” he told me with a laugh. “I figured you were going to be calling in the next day or two, as soon as you had the part in hand.”

“And here I am,” I said. “I’ve got the part in hand, but I want you to tell me how to get it from being in my hand to being on the plane.”

He laughed. “You’ve watched me do this a hundred times. And how many times have I walked you through the exact same thing? You should be able to do it by now.”

“I can do it, I just need you to tell me while I’m doing it to make sure it’s right. I’m taking Laurel up in the air with me, so if something goes wrong, it’s not just my life on the line. I can’t do anything that’s going to make me feel like she’s in any kind of danger.”

“Okay, that’s fair enough,” he said. “But I’m only telling you how to do this for her sake. If it was only you who was going to fly, I would let you take your chances.”

“That’s why you’re my best friend,” I teased him right back. I knew he wasn’t being serious. This was the man who would give me the shirt off his back if he knew I was in need. He was forever doing things that would help me, even if I wasn’t going to pay him back for it.

Of course, with the kind of friendship that we had, there was no reason why we shouldn’t have the ability to tease each other that way. He knew as well as I did that we would both drop anything for the other person in a heartbeat if needed, and nothing was going to change that.
