Now, that wasn’t to say that it was going to work out smoothly.

Now that Kenton brought up the fact they might not be the easiest for me to get along with, I couldn’t help but question just what that would mean for me.

I could set out some basic rules for the person coming onto the plane. But, I always thought that got me started off on the wrong foot with anyone who was going to be flying with me. I didn’t want them to feel like they were walking into a situation where they weren’t able to relax or enjoy themselves.

The fact that we were going to be in the air was in and of itself reason for me to want them to be as comfortable as possible. The more nervous they were, or the more anxious they were about the flight and how we were going to make things happen, the more stressful of a flight it was for me.

I had ridden with some people who had very low standards when it came to a lot of things that were important to me in the past. Such as whether or not they were going to bathe regularly or even put on deodorant.

“The look on your face makes my day,” Kenton said, breaking into my thoughts. “Really. I don’t know who you’re going to wind up with on this one, but never have I ever wanted so much for you to get someone who really just is the worst of the worst.”

“You are the worst of the worst, so if you want me to wind up with that, you better get up there and buckle up,” I said. “You’re evil. This is like me saying that I wish you had a plane you had to fix that requires you to get up in the air and hear how the problem is acting up in order for you to fix it.”

“That’s not funny,” he said with a wrinkled nose.

“It’s a lot funnier than wishing that I would get stuck with someone who doesn’t know how to put on deodorant for the next few months.” I rolled my eyes. “You just don’t think it’s funny because you are the one who would have to be put in that position, not me.”

“Exactly,” he said with a shake of his head. “Why do you have to be so mean?”

“Now here you go, getting all worked up about this when it’s just a theoretical!” I said with a laugh. “Are you really that offended with me saying that?”

“I think you could hold back on some of the things you say sometimes,” he said with a mock sniff. “You know how much I’m afraid of flying.”

“I didn’t know that before like two days ago,” I told him.

“But you do know now!” he shot back. “And for you to be so insensitive that you can’t just manage to keep it to yourself, well, I don’t know what to tell you.”

I laughed out loud at him all over again. “You are getting your panties in a wad for nothing, you know that?”

“It’s not nothing!” he shot back. “It’s because I’m offended with what you just said to me, and you should take it back.”

“I’m not taking it back,” I replied.

“Karma is going to come for you, and since you’re being so mean to me, I bet you anything you’re going to really regret that you didn’t take the chance to redact your statement when you still had the time to do it,” he said.

“Yeah, okay.” I laughed. “But I’m pretty sure you are the one getting the karma after you told me you wanted me to be stuck with someone who doesn’t bathe.”

He said something I didn’t hear, but before I could ask him to reply, the car pulled up in front of the hangar.

“That must be the client,” I said.

“Hold your breath,” Kenton replied.

I barely had the time to give him another look before turning my attention to the client. My eyes widened as she stepped out of the car, and Kenton let out a low whistle.

“Damn,” he said. “Looks like you died and went to client heaven.”

“Shut up,” was all I could manage.

But, he was right. This was by far the most beautiful woman I had ever laid eyes on, and to think that I was going to be flying with her for the next few months was enough to make me feel like I was on cloud nine.

She was stunning. Petite, blonde hair with blue eyes. The most gorgeous woman ever, I was sure of that.

I squared my shoulders and gave Kenton another look.

“This is karma,” I said. “Good karma for me for not kicking your ass after all the fucked up shit you say to me.”

“Here’s hoping she’s a lesbian,” Kenton replied. “That would be the best karma for you to have to endure yet.”
