“I need you.” She grinds into my touch.

“I need you too.” Not just because sex is always amazing with her but because it irrevocably joins us and binds us to each other.

I shove down the front of my joggers and underwear. Gifted by Dee’s openness, by her surrender, I sink my cock into the juiciest cavern a man could ever know.

“Mick.” Her body shakes and her inner muscles contract, sucking me in deeper.

I slide my hands beneath her thighs, pulling her to me and canting her in place. She digs her fingers into my biceps, gasping when I put the force of my desire behind my thrust, surging over and over through the tight clasp of her pussy. I rumble a low roar when she climaxes, milking the entire length of me.

That’s all it takes.

I come with the velocity of a fired missile, shooting off in a blaze of curses and heated spasms. Her cries overlapping mine, her body trembles. I crush our lips together, my tongue pushing into her mouth as I pump out the rest of my orgasm.

When the sensations finally ease, I wrap my arms around her.

“Now breakfast is cold,” she says in a breathless voice against my ear.

I ease back to look at her with a satisfied smile. “Cold breakfast, hot woman, I’ll take that trade.”

We decide to shower first since we’re going to have to warm up the food anyway. Washing each other turns into more foreplay. I slip my hands between her legs, staking my claim, and she fists me, staking hers. It’s another thirty minutes before we emerge from the steamy bathroom wrapped in towels.

“Awesome start to the day.” Dee smiles and disappears into the closet.

I feel loose and energized. Making love with Dee has that effect. I pull on boxer briefs. My phone buzzes. I walk over to the dresser and recognize the number across the top of the screen. Dread tangles in my chest like choking vines.

“What’s wrong?” Dee asks, reappearing with her suit in hand to catch me glowering at my phone.

“It’s Malcolm.”

“Aren’t you going to answer?”

Between the trip to Louisiana and the case, I’d pushed the looming deadline into that dark corner of my mind. “We have enough to deal with right now. This can wait.”

“You’re capable of handling more than one thing at a time,” she says with gentle encouragement. “Whatever he wants or has decided, won’t go away by avoiding him.”

“I’m not avoiding him.”

She gives my buzzing phone a pointed look.

Dammit. I swipe to answer and lift the phone to my ear. “What?”

“Hello,son.”

Already primed and agitated from him encroaching into my space with Dee, his congenial tone—that I don’t trust for a second—tests my patience. “I’m not interested in playing games. Get to the point.”

“You sound stressed.”

“The point, Malcolm.”

“I’ve been mulling things over.”

“And?”

“Once I got past that little stunt you pulled last week, I got to thinking it might be a good time for me to move on.”

I tense up, skeptical by his too-easy assent. Dee watches me in question. “You’re going to sell me the house and leave?”

“Not much happening in this sleepy town. There’s a whole world out there. I can spread my wings like an eagle.”
