He walks toward the limo with long, graceful strides and cool confidence. Watching him is eroticism in motion. He shakes hands with Bernard then approaches the rear door.

It opens and the soft light spills over him. Casually elegant, he’s wearing all black too—dress slacks with a tailored suit jacket, and the shirt beneath is left unbuttoned at the collar and one below. His short waves are carelessly tossed and a dusting of dark stubble coats his cheeks and jaw.

Before I can get my wrap, he holds out his hand. Our palms touch; his warm and sure, bring me to my feet. He checks me out from my glossy curls to the pointy tips of my shoes, then reverses the tour, leisurely letting his gaze glide upward. Pausing on my dress, the pendant, my red lips, and finally my eyes, where his gaze stays. He turns my hand over and presses a kiss to my wrist. “You take my breath, Deeana Rae.”

I smile up at him, wanting nothing more than to bury my face into the exposed column of his throat and suck on his skin. But we’re not alone. “Thank you for the lovely drive here. It was a wonderful surprise.”

“I hope you’ll be as pleased with the rest of the evening.”

“How can I not be?”

He shakes his head. “You continue to amaze me.”

“Why?”

“Because I wasn’t sure if the girl who used to read the endings of books first would welcome surprises.”

“I still read the endings first,” I admit. “But lately I’ve found myself open to new adventures.”

His movement is swift, making my breath catch and release an instant before his mouth is on mine. Desire sparks fast, a forest catching fire. Tongues tangle, the kiss ravenous, urgent; a need that befits weeks spent apart rather than hours. No matter how many times, it’s never enough. I constantly want him…crave him with a hunger so fierce it shakes me.

“Christ, Dee,” he groans, breaking the kiss. But doesn’t go far. With his hands flexing at my hips, he rests his forehead on mine as he exhales quick, hard breaths. “It’s impossible not to get carried away with you.”

“I know the feeling.” My fingers brush over his lapels. “Maybe we should climb inside the limo and finish this.”

“I can lay you out and have my way with you.”

“Please.” I shiver.

“Don’t tempt me, baby. We have reservations and what I want to do to you takes time.” He kisses me again. This one brief, but the passion between us lingers as his hands fall away. “Let’s get your things before I change my mind.”

I wouldn’t complain, but I also appreciate the merits of delayed gratification.

Mick drapes the shawl around my shoulders and hands me my purse. I think of the ring tucked inside and hold the clutch against me.

“Shall we?” He secures my arm through the bend of his elbow. “We’ll see you on the other side, Bernard.”

I’d forgotten about our audience of one. But the fact that Mick hadn’t suggests that despite Bernard’s refined appearance he is as much a bodyguard as he is a driver. I should have known Mick would take all the necessary precautions. But I appreciate that he’d done it in a way to give me a nice experience rather than make it feel like security detail.

I manage a sheepish glance in Bernard’s direction. “Thank you again.”

“Mademoiselle Chase.” He nods.

“Where’s the other side?” I ask turning back to Mick.

“You’ll see.”

“No hints?”

“Nope. Have you ever flown in one of these before?”

“First time,” I admit with nervous excitement. “Have you?”

“A few times on business and I’ve taken Dwayde up for fun.”

Meaning, no other woman has shared this experience with him. That makes it all the more special.

We board the luxury three-seater and Mick introduces me to our pilot, Finn. But I notice he doesn’t give my name, only trusting so much in Finn’s professional discretion. The pilot goes over the safety rules and equips us with earphones and mikes. Within minutes we are buckled in and taking off.
