“What the hell just happened?” Mick asks.

“Gabi’s growing up.” I put the casserole under the broiler to hurry it along.

“Yeah, I see that.”

“Do I have you wrapped around my finger?” I tease.

“Absolutely.” He squeezes my butt and whispers in my ear. “But it’s fair play, since I get to have you wrapped around my cock.”

“You are so bad.”

“You like me bad.” His mouth travels across my cheek to my lips.

“True.” I grin into his kiss, and soon forget where we are and that the casserole is still on broil.

Only the smoke alarm jerks us apart. The dish is unsalvageable. I order pizza and we all squeeze around the dining table. It’s tight and we’re bumping elbows.

Not the brunch I had envisioned. But my place is noisy, full of laughter, and I’m surrounded by the people I love.

It’s perfect.

And so are Mondays when they start with Mick. A quickie in the shower saves me time for my hair, but I decide to leave it down. Lena’seyes almost bug out of her head. It’s part of the new me. I’m not exactly sure who that is yet, but I like who I’m becoming.

The day is long and productive. Since Mick is out for the evening, after hitting the gym for an hour, I make myself a salad and enjoy a glass of chilled wine before soaking in a bubble bath. That’s where Mick finds me.

He strips out of his business attire, making my nipples harden, and slides in behind me, cradling my back against his chest.

“Are there bullets in the water or are you just happy to see me?”

Laughing, I splash him then lean back into him. “How was your meeting at Pivotal?”

“Good. Jordyn should have a preliminary design for me by next week.”

“That’s exciting.”

“Yeah. I’m pumped to break ground.” He scoops warm, frothy water over my shoulders. “Sorry, I missed having dinner with you tonight.”

“Don’t be. This project is important. We’ll have lots of dinners together. Did you at least get something to eat?” I ask, noting that it must be 9:00ish.

“I grabbed a bite with my lawyer after the meeting.”

“Oh, the one working on the project?”

“No, my personal attorney, Nolan. He handles most of my financial affairs. Now he’ll handle ours.”

“But we don’t have money together.”

“I fixed that.”

“You what?” I angle my head to look up at him over my shoulder.

“It’s no big thing. I opened up a joint checking account, included you on some investments, and started the paperwork to pay off your mortgage. All the documents are on your desk for you to look over and sign. Don’t worry, the house will stay in your name.”

“I can’t accept any of that.”

“Why not?” His tone is defensive.

“Because I’m not comfortable taking your money.”
