“I found an invoice. From Stiles.” I turn the laptop toward her.

“JDS.” She squints at the logo. “I wonder what the JD stands for? John Douglas, Jack Donovan…”

“Focus, Jord.” I tap my finger on O’Malley’s name.

Her brows scrunch up. “Wait…isn’t that the tabloid dude Mick punched?”

“Yes. It just has his name. Nothing about the service Stiles provided.”

“So?”

“So, that’s weird. The other services are listed. O’Malley could be the problem that Mick is hiding from me. That could be who he heard from on Tuesday. O’Malley’s had it in for Mick. Maybe he found out something to threaten him with. His past, me…oh my God, that makes sense, right?”

“I mean, it’s possible, I guess. But you’re extrapolating a lot from a name on an invoice.”

“I know.” I shake my head, my brain racing. “But what if I’m right and O’Malley was at Mick’s last night?”

“You really think Mick would invite O’Malley into his condo?”

“If he had a good reason to. Say, if O’Malley made a threat that could affect me, Mick would probably agree to meet him. Given their history, it could have gotten heated. Add alcohol to the mix and boom.” I mimic an explosion with my hands, while Jordyn looks at me as if I’ve lost my mind.

“I know Mick is an aspiring writer…didn’t know you were.”

I ignore her sarcasm. “I’m onto something, Jord. I can feel it.”

Micah

“She what?” I gape atVictor and continue pacing. After practice, the boys had headed to the locker room, leaving us alone in the gym. I could tell Victor had something on his mind, but I wasn’t expecting this bombshell.

“You heard me. She asked if I could find out if O’Malley looked like he had taken a punch to the face.”

“Don’t tell me you went along with this.”

“I promised to look into it. Otherwise, trust me, bruh, she would have done it herself.”

Just the thought of Dee getting anywhere near O’Malley has my skin crawling and my hands fisting. “Why would she think O’Malley would be at my condo?”

“She found an invoice from Stiles with his name. It seemed suspicious to her and she thought the two might be connected.”

The floor squeaks with the abrupt halt of my sneakers. “Dee went into my laptop?”

“I told you she’s determined. So, why was O’Malley a line item?”

“It’s standard security protocol. Stiles suggested I look into him after he threatened to sue me.”

“That’s your story?”

“It’s not a story.”

“Right.” He snorts. “Was O’Malley at your place last night?”

“Hell no.”

“Hm.” He peers at me closely. “Think I believe you on that.”

“You’ll stop Dee from going down this road then?”

“You could do that yourself by telling her the truth.”
