I grabbed onto a male’s arm, unafraid of the fur under my hand, unbothered by his size. “We have to turn away!”

He shook me off with a scowl and went back to sharpening a spearhead. I spun to another male that seemed to be feeding the fire pit, latching onto his shoulder with a tight grip.

He hissed a warning and shoved me hard enough to knock me into a barrel of some kind of liquid.

I stood up in a daze, a commanding bellow from the one male whose voice I now recognized clearing my path.

Shaking like a leaf, I stumbled my way to the back of the ship, my hands trembling with the urge to do something, anything to stop us from plunging over the edge, but there was no way toguidethe ship that I could see.

There was no one steering!

I hadn’t realized the fish monster seemed to be steering rather than a male on deck.

Spinning in a frantic circle, my eyes drifted over everything around me, trying to focus on anything else but the impending doom building—and found the chained male watching me with a curious tilt of his head.

I tripped my way back to his side, shakily pointing toward the cliff. “We’re going to go over.”

His lips frowned, and I waited for another brush-off, but he tilted his head as if beckoning me closer.

On numb feet, I walked the rest of the way, freezing when the boat rocked violently, bumping against the rocks below and then dropped to my knees at his side.

He spoke low and soft but with that dangerously rough timber.

I shook my head. “I don’t know what you’re trying to say.”

He gestured with his chin back toward the cliff, and though it took effort, I forced myself to look back at the terrifying sight.

The boat was bobbing up and down now in great heaves, threatening to knock me off balance, and it made the sight beyond the fall even more alarming.

Icy waves would smash against the bow, and then the boat would cut through it and dip, revealing glimpses of just howfardownwe were about to fall.

I tried to see what he was pointing out, but there was nothing.

I squeezed my eyes shut, my heart beating so fast it felt like it was about to burst from my chest.

As the boat began to dip so far down that I knew we were at the edge, my body justreactedwithout any direction from my brain by wrapping itself around the chained male.

A surprised grunt hit my ears as my ass landed heavily in his lap, but I didn’t have the time to apologize.

Everything below my belly button jumped up to my throat as we tippeddownand then rioted inside my chest as we jolted backup.

There was a distinct purring sound in my ear now, low and soothing—or at least attempting to be soothing—but I was gaping at the front of the boat.

That monster that had been pulling us through the ice and water was nowflyingthrough the air.

It was pulling the boat at such a speed, the wind now whistling around us, that the momentum kept us up in the air.

We were flying straight over the cliff drop.

I sagged against the cat man’s chest, a watery sigh leaving my lips. “I hate this place.”

But at least I was still alive.

I wasn’tsure how long I sat in the male’s lap…and IknewI should have been at least a little embarrassed about my behavior, but it was kind of nice to be comforted for a little while, even if I was kind of stealing that comfort.

But I didn’t feel too bad. He was, after all, leaning back into me.

He was even purring again, and lord knew that was starting to have a soothing effect on me.
