Hey Beautiful,
I checked the time-off calendar, and it’s a mess.
I don’t know what is going on with Houdini, but he and Reaper have been in Reilly’s office several times this week and his ‘vacation’ just got overridden on the calendar. I think he is being given a leave of absence, and they are trying to keep it hush-hush to everyone.
… Probably because one or two guys might beat the tar out of him if his Falcon checked out okay. The poor guy hasn’t made any friends by not following protocol or abandoning his station.
I heard him whispering to Ricochet and Ghost one afternoon saying something about the display screen was blank on his jet… but if it worked when they tested it? It makes you wonder what exactly is going on.
Yeah, whatever it is – it’s not good for Houdini.
Apparently, Ghost is flying out with him, too. They are going to be heading to Yonder, possibly staying at Sophie’s bed and breakfast. I’m not sure.
Reaper offered it up… but I don’t know how comfortable I would feel with another man staying in my home. Yeah, I’m a little possessive and protective – that would not sit well at all.
… But then again? Reaper will literally kill someone if they touch his wife. The man didn’t earn his name for no reason. He’s quite ‘skilled’ at his job (read ‘lethal’) flying his Falcon.
If you are okay with a short visit from me, there’s a four-day opening – which would give us about three days together. We can have dinner with your parents, go on a date, and spend some time alone…
Thank you so much for telling me about Meredith. Her husband is here, and yeah - they’ve been having problems. I’ve never seen the guy really reach out or seem so upbeat as he was after he read the email (I hope you don’t mind that I told him).
If something was wrong in our world – I would want someone to tell me, so I could fix it… quickly!
I think your words gave him a way to reach her, and that’s all any of us lonely guys need is a chance. He’s going to go home and see Meredith – but please don’t tell her. They need to fight their own battles.
Your kind heart is a true blessing and I’m so grateful you danced with me at the reception. My life changed the moment you smiled at me… and I’m so glad.
Let me know if the following dates work for you – and I’ll go ahead and request off. Gosh, I can’t wait to see your beautiful smile…

John ploppeddown in the computer chair, utterly exhausted.
Sure enough, Reilly went on for several hours about ‘opportunities for improvement’and formation, blah, blah, blah…
He thought he saw Sparky starting to nod off, but Ghost elbowed him, saving the guy’s neck. Then they all had to run laps to ‘drive home today’s discussion’because people learned by having ‘skin in the game’…
John hated that phrase with a passion.
Vapor didn’t hold back. He said aloud what everyone else was thinking… and well, yeah, they ran for quite a while. Surprisingly enough, no one was mad at Vapor. No, it was quite focused at Reilly… and for the first time ever?
John heard someone speak aloud as they were running, that they wanted to make colonel… just to take over, removing Reilly from his position. If Reilly didn’t take it easy? There was going to be problems, John realized.
They all knew none of the other squadrons were treated like this, or worked over so hard. Reilly had an axe to grind… and they were nothing but the honing stone and strop to sharpen it.
Even one or two of the Army guys sitting on ‘King’s Beach’ near the far end of the base made comments about how the ‘Zoomies were always doing laps’…
Yeah, it was demoralizing – and he was so looking forward to reading Emily’s other email to lift his spirits.
As he logged in, he opened the email… and cracked up laughing wildly as he began to read, causing a few other guys to look over his shoulder before John could hide the email.
“Dude… that’s your wife?” Ricochet grinned. “That’s awesome…”
“Who knew it? X-Ray is a freak on a leash…”
