“So, what did you do?” I asked Drayven.

“What I’m trained to do,” he said simply. “She’s my VIP.”

“He fought off six kidnappers with nothing but a pocket knife,” Lucy said proudly.

“Yes, quite the skilled professional,” said her father. He sounded like he respected Drayven.

“They’ve been inseparable ever since,” Weston finished.

It started to make sense. Why Dominic was ok with a bodyguard marrying his daughter. He was fond of Lucy, and this was his reward to Drayven for saving her life. But when Weston told him he was going to propose to his girlfriend, who carried no title or status, it was a frank, fuck no.

It really went to show who their favorite child was.

“Well, Quinn, you’re going to represent our side of this union as Lucy’s maid of honor. Tell us a little about yourself,” Dominic said.

I suddenly felt like I was in a job interview and needed to pitch my worth. But I’d done that with this family already. And they weren’t going to take away anything I worked so hard to accomplish.

Weston, who had been rather uninterested during the entire conversation, suddenly sat up and leaned in.

“Well, I grew up in Cedar Grove. Just 45 mins North of here. It’s a small town, but it’s full of life and lots of love. I run the local clothing boutique there, Dahlia’s. It’s been in my family since the town was founded.”

I smiled. Content with my response.

“A businesswoman,” said Evelyn. “How darling.” She finished off her drink.

Dinner arrived, and the attention turned from me to the plans for the weekend so they could make decisions as quickly as possible.

While Lucy and Evelyn gushed over details. Weston and Drayven chatted quietly to themselves. Dominic excused himself to take another call. And I sat there. Weston glanced in my direction a few times, which made me feel like they might have been discussing me.

“Well, we have a lot to do tomorrow. Cake tastings. Venue tours. I can’t wait!” Lucy squealed. “Let’s get some rest, I already booked us all at the adorable bed and breakfast here. It’s to die for. So cute.”

She looked over at Weston. “Well, except foryourroom, brother. Nobody told me you were coming, and there were only three rooms available.”

“Nonsense. You and Quinn can share a room, and Drayven and Weston can share another.” Evelyn said matter of factly.

Lucy looked at me. “Are you okay with that? They’re king beds.”

“Of course,” I said. “Whatever the bride wants.”

We all got up and started walking to the quaint bed and breakfast just a short distance from the winery.

Lucy leaned in and whispered, “Listen, Dray and I haven’t seen each other in almost a week. I really miss him. You mind if we sneak in a little smash sesh before calling it a night? My hormones are insane.”

I couldn’t deny the girl some sexy time with her man. “I’ll hang out in the library. Just text me when I can come up.”

“You’re the best, maid of honor.” She squeezed me.

Weston walked close to me. I thought he would say something to me a few times, but he stopped himself each time. I was desperate to break the tension, but before I could say anything, we were at the entrance.

CHAPTERFOUR

WESTON

SeeingQuinn after all these years was unreal. It took me all of five seconds to realize that she was really happy. Genuinely content. That was—until she saw me.

Her entire demeanor changed.

I couldn’t blame her. It was a shitty situation. She was my ex-assistant and secret ex-girlfriend, and now sitting with the family that denied us and didn’t even remember that they did so.
