“You son of a…gun,” said Lucy. “Why are you in such a hurry to get married? You couldn’t wait for me?”

Weston glared at Dominic. I finally felt like I should speak up.

“We didn’t want to steal the attention from you, Lu. This is yours and Dray’s big moment.”

“Yes, but it’s yours, too. We could’ve had double weddings and double baby showers,” she pouted.

“Baby showers!” Evelyn shrieked. “I need a drink.” She stood up and headed to the bar, pouring whiskey into a snifter.

Weston reached down and rubbed my midsection when Dominic looked at me.

“I need to speak to Weston alone,” he said sternly. “The rest of you can wait outside.”

Lucy snorted and took Drayven by the hand as she walked out. Evelyn stood close by, sipping on her drink.

I stood to leave. After all, Dominic said he wanted to talk to his son alone.

“Whatever you have to say to me, you can say in front of my wife,” Weston said. His hand pressed into my shoulder, willing me to stay.

“Very well.” Dominic nodded, rounding his desk and taking the giant leather seat.

“Evelyn, dear? Do you mind giving us a moment?” His voice eased a bit.

She sighed. “I suppose.” Taking a final gulp of her drink she set the glass down on the cart and followed Lucy.

“What is the meaning of all this?” Dominic hissed as soon as she shut the door. “I was very clear on my instructions. I have women ready to meet you—this week, Weston.”

My mouth dropped. He spoke like I wasn’t even in the room.

“Father, Quinn is your daughter-in-law. And she is carryingyourgrandchild. Do her the decency of speaking to her like you would your own daughter.” Weston snarled back.

“This marriage needs to be annulled,” Dominic growled. “And don’t you worry, Quinn, we will pay you handsomely to ensure you and the child you’re carrying are well taken care of.” He turned and spoke directly to me.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Weston couldn’t control himself any longer. “We’re not pawns in your giant chess game. Quinn doesn’t deserve this. Maybe if you would focus less on who your children decide to be with and focus more on your own issues, you’d see thatyouare the one fucking up this family.”

“What did you say?” Dominic stood slowly from his chair.

“Look around you! Lucy and I fall for people you don’t approve of, which drives you crazy. You feel the need to control every part of our lives while your own wife drinks herself to death without you even noticing. You’re twisted, father. Demented. Why are you even still here? This office belongs to the CEO of Globelink. And you’re too stuck up your own ass to see that we aren’t moving forward because you can’t let go.”

Dominic’s face turned red. “I’ve spent my entire life growing this empire—Globelink—all of our assets—so that I could pass them down to you. To Lucinda. Just so that you would never have to suffer the way I suffered. So you wouldn’t have to wish for things I couldn’t give you because we needed to make ends meet. And what do I get in return? Ungrateful, entitled parasites?”

Weston marched around the desk and jabbed his finger into his father’s chest. “You are delusional. You think you’re the only one worth a shit here, and you talk to everyone else like we’re below you. This conversation is over. Let’s go, Quinn.”

My knees almost buckled as I stood, but Weston caught me and escorted me out the door.

I thought I was crazy for saying yes to Weston and his proposition.

But this—this was beyond anything I signed up for.

CHAPTERFOURTEEN

WESTON

“What are we going to do?”Lucy asked me, grabbing another dinner roll.

Lucy, Dray, Quinn, and I met up at our place to discuss Dominic and his meddling.

Muriel was away. It came as no surprise that Tom, the doorman, asked her out on a date. How could he avoid her charm? And she apparently couldn’t avoid his wit.
