I closed the door to the theater room and padded down the hall to the vaulted kitchen. My phone buzzed again, and I snatched it up without looking to see who it was.

“This is Weston,” I snapped.

“Ah, so you do know how to answer a phone.” The words were meant to diminish me, but I was done with Dominic Myles.

“What do you want?”

“Have you seen your mother?” He asked, almost sounding concerned.

“No, but if history has proven anything, she’s probably at some sleek downtown bar downing a martini and trying to forget about you.”

Ok, that was harsh. But the man had put us all through enough.

“Touché, but I’m being serious,” he said.

I imagined he was calling from his office late at night after getting off the phone with some dignitary on the other side of the planet.

“So am I.”

“Weston, we need to talk,” he said plainly.

“I have nothing left to say to you.”

“It’s about Globelink. You being the CEO, you should probably know about this. Come to my office.”

I looked at my watch.

“It’s nearly midnight, why are you at the…you know what, never mind. Whatever it is, it can wait till the morning.” I almost hung up.

“Weston, wait. It…can’twait until morning. It’ll be done by then.” Something in his voice sounded off. Strained. Not the usual detached delivery.

“What will be done by then?”

“Just meet me here, please. I beg of you.” Dominic Myles never said please. He never begged.

I ran a hand over my face.

“Fine, but whatever it is, make it quick.” I hung up and went in search of my jacket. I was still half-dressed in my bachelor party suit. Drayven, Jax, and some of their buddies were out on the town celebrating.

I would have to meet him on my own.

Globelink was eerie at night.Only streetlights and lights from other office buildings shined through the windows. Otherwise, the rooms were nearly pitch black. I got on the elevator and used my access card to select the 25th floor where Dominic was waiting for me.

What on God’s green earth could’ve been so important to have me racing down here in the middle of the night?

I had sped the entire way to Globelink, trying to hurry up and get back to Quinn before she could realize I was gone.

I knocked on the door and my father called me.

“What is all this about?” I said, shoving my hands into my pocket.

“Son, take a seat.”

I scoffed. “No thanks, I’m good right here.”

“Very well,” he walked to the bar and poured two glasses of scotch, handing me one before returning to his desk.
