Lacey let out a breath as soon as they walked into her room. “Well, that was eventful.”
Drew shook his head. “What did you ever see in that guy?”
Lacey shrugged. “Like I said, he wasn’t always a jerk. Thank you for sticking up for me.”
He pulled Lacey into his arms and swept stray strands of hair from her face. “I’m so sorry for losing my cool.”
She pulled back and looked into his warm eyes. “Don’t be. It was pretty sexy.” Her cheeks flushed pink.
“Sexy, huh?” Drew smiled, and the pink deepened to scarlet.
“Yes, you’re very sexy,” she said stoically, reining in a smirk. “Feel better now?”
Drew leaned down and kissed her. “Much better.” His hands roamed over her back, from her waist to her shoulder blades and back down until they landed on her hips. “You’re amazing. Do you know that?”
“Yup.” Lacey said with a giggle. “And thank you. You’re not so bad yourself.”
The way their bodies were pressed up against each other had a whirlwind of emotions growing within him. And if they didn’t leave soon, his excitement would be very clear to Lacey. “Let’s get going before I can’t walk.” Lacey’s eyes grew wide, and when they flicked down to Drew’s waist, her mouth gaped open. Drew groaned, “Sweetheart, you’re making it worse.”
“Okay, okay, let’s go.”
Drew looked up appreciatively as Lacey slid on her sunglasses and started to enjoy the lunch that had just been served. He stretched out on the lounge beside her and took in another perfect island afternoon. Vacationers relaxed on chaise lounges lining the outdoor patio, enjoying the sun and getting their daily dose of vitamin D.
Every once in a while he’d catch her looking curiously at him from the corners of her eyes, but aside from that, she looked very relaxed. For which he was thankful. How could it be that out of all the women who had crossed his path, no one else made him feel the way Lacey had?
Drew thought about talking to Ethan about his feelings. To get his best friend’s take on falling in love at first kiss. He’d definitely been attracted to her at first sight, but the feeling that ran through his veins in the lobby was nothing compared to when their lips met.
He had heard people talk about seeing fireworks or losing theirbreath when their soul mate came into their life. On a normal day he’d think that was crazy or maybe just a way to explain the unexplainable. But now he understood. Maybe he really did need to talk to Ethan about this after all.
He brought his eyes back to Lacey, just as she was polishing off her meal. “How was your lunch?”
“Spero’s chef is fantastic. The salmon was amazing. I would never think of pairing it with tropical fruit.”
“Do you like to cook?”
“Yes, I love it. It isn’t always easy cooking for one, but at least I don’t need to worry about pleasing anyone but myself.”
Images of Lacey donning nothing but a sexy apron while standing in his kitchen flashed through Drew’s head. “I’m easy to please.”
She lowered her sunglasses to the tip of her nose. “What’s your favorite food?”
“I’m a meat-and-potatoes guy. But I’m happy with just a sandwich, since that’s my specialty.”
“At least you can make something so I know you won’t waste away.”
“Don’t forget cereal. That’s one of my favorite things.”
“Let me guess, Wheaties?”
“No, Cocoa Pebbles.” Lacey let out a sweet laugh. “What’s so funny? Have you ever had it? The milk turns super chocolatey.”
“I’ll take your word for it.”
“You don’t believe me?”
“Did I say that?”
Bantering with Lacey was the best way to spend the afternoon. When Ethan came into sight, Drew smiled and motioned him over. Ethan waved at a few people before speaking to a waiter and pointing to a wedge of lime on the ground, which the young man hurriedly picked up.
