He grinned, slouching back a bit in his chair, his legs widening as she came closer.

But she wasn't about to let him get off that easy. Reaching out and grabbing his tie, she pulled him in close until he was nearly standing and rubbed the tip of her nose against the tip of his nose before moving away. She came back a moment later and pressed a kiss to his cheek, then dragged the tip of her tongue along the lobe of his ear before backing off and continuing her dance up on stage.

She could see him sitting in place, stunned, his thumb touching the spot on his cheek where she'd kissed him, and his index finger touching the spot on his ear where her tongue had touched. His dark gaze was locked on her, and she could see the predatory nature of him. That almost brought a smile to her lips. Little did he know, she was as much of a predator as he was.

What the men here didn’t know was that she had learned to read people, learned to get what she wanted by getting people to admit things to her, things they'd pay handsomely not to become public. She'd never technically blackmailed anyone; she just encouraged them to talk, though when they realized they'd said too much, they were quick to offer large sums of money to keep her quiet.

Like the senator who accidentally tripped up and mentioned his illegitimate son that he hadn't ever paid a dime of child support on.

Like the married pastor who liked finding male company on dating apps while preaching the good word in opposition to his secret lifestyle.

Like the teacher who admitted there was a specific jock who’d caught her eye and needed his grade to come up... and had made sure to sweeten the deal.

Kaitlyn had learned that everybody has a deep, dark, dirty secret and the higher their position, the more they were willing to do to keep it quiet. Internally, she liked to joke that if she was a bad person, someone who liked to do evil things, she could absolutely rule the world with the information people seemed all too comfortable telling her, then instantly regretted.

As her song started to wrap up, Kaitlyn moved again in front of Devon. This time he stood up, moved forward, put his hands on the stage, and leaned into her. On her knees, she wrapped her arms around his head and pulled him close to her body. He took the opportunity to kiss her skin and she pretended like he was driving her wild in front of a crowd of onlookers.

She knew the rules - he wasn't allowed to touch her. But if she instigated touch with someone worth as much as Devon, her manager and the owner would wholeheartedly approve. After all, the girls were supposed to keep rich guys happy; they just weren’t allowed to sleep with them.

As anticipated, Devon started to get a little too handsy, running his hands up her thighs and grabbing two handfuls of her ass. He squeezed and Kaitlyn, not liking the sensation, broke out of his grasp with a flirty smile as her song ended.

She escaped the stage and went into the backroom, closing the door behind her and struggling to catch her breath.

“You okay, honey?” Candy seemed concerned as she put her hands on Kaitlyn’s shoulders and ducked her head, her blue eyes searching Kaitlyn’s.

“Yeah, fine, just a rough night.” Kaitlyn forced a smile to her face and Candy let her go. She'd done exactly what she set out to do at the beginning of the night. Still, some part of her couldn't help but wonder what her victory would cost her.

“Kait, someone’s here to see you.” The manager stuck her head through the door and icy-hot pinpricks raced across her body. “Take him to booth three.”

Kaitlyn winced. She knew exactly who was here to see her, and she did not want to be locked in a little room alone with him, especially not after how much she'd flirted with him on stage. Still, she couldn't very well tell her manager no, so with a deep breath, she slipped out of the backroom and came face to face with Devon.

While she didn't want to be alone with him, she knew that one-on-one time would absolutely ensure that she would have enough money to save Fawn. So, she plastered a fake smile on her face, took his hand, and led him to booth three.

Her heart felt like it was going to beat out of her chest, and her tongue stuck to the roof of her dry mouth like a fly stuck to a trash strip her fourth foster family hung in every corner of the house. Remembering where she come from reminded her what she'd already survived, and that she could get through this too.

In the booth, Devon took a seat, a cruel grin stretching across his lips. “Dance for me. Just me,” he said, licking his lips and unbuckling his belt.

With the song on stage filtering through the speakers, she began to move her body to the pulsing music.

“Closer.” The single word was an order from Devon's lips, and she took a half step forward.

Kaitlyn studied his face for a moment, thinking he'd be handsome if he wasn't such a jerk. Green eyes, deep russet red hair, the freckles across his nose, his strong features... he was a good-looking guy, except for the cruel, flat look in his eyes.

As Kaitlyn worked her hips in slow circles in an enticing, suggestive motion, she worried about getting closer.

“I own you for the night. Closer.” His shining white teeth flashed as he gave her devilish grin.

Kaitlyn's stomach twisted in a knot. What was he about to do to her? And what could she do to stop him? She’d encouraged him for tips, and here he was, taking what he felt she owed him.

Chapter4

Carter

“Mr. Wright? Mr. Wright!”Sally's voice rang out across the floor just as the elevator door started to slide closed.

With one hand, Carter opened the door and she stepped into the elevator with him. “Hello, Sally. Was there something we needed to talk about?” Carter didn't enjoy elevator rides, and he relished them even less with other people. He didn't want to make small talk, he didn't want to hear her wild stories about her little dog Ginger Snap, and he sure as heck didn't want her to ask him what his plans for the night were.

Sally had been making it a habit to try to get closer to him, and all that made Carter want to do is push her further and further away. Staying polite and still dissuading her attempts to accidentally or on purpose spend time together outside work was getting more and more difficult with every passing day.
