My body gives a giant shiver. I kick the sheets off my legs and scoot to the edge of the bed, my vision hazy. I’m shaking. Tiny droplets of sweat bead across my brow as I feel the heat of my body dripping down my bare back.

Every inch of my flesh quivers with alarm.

“Universal Studios would like to extend an invitation for a role in the upcoming sitcom‘Three’s A Crowd’,”Piper reads, her tone cautious.“Your representation of the lead role was approved by casting director Edmond Silver and accompanying stage manager, David Haist.”

Suddenly, my dry throat aches beneath a scattered pulse.

Piper continues reading but it’s all just a blur now. I don’t have the words. Any words.

“Babe? Are you there?” Piper asks.

I nod my head, completely unaware she can’t see it. I’m resting on the edge of the bed, my entire body feeling as if I’m floating in a dream.

“I remember that audition… It was months ago.”

“Filming starts in October,” Piper says.

This can’t be real. The lead role in a Hollywood sitcom… This is my dream. This is everything I’ve worked so hard for in my career.

But as I sit here, staring across the room at a bright red jersey hanging on the wall, the man’s name who someday, maybe, I wished to share as my own beaming in bright, bold letters… I’m left with one burning question stinging my eyes.

What the fuck do I do now?

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Aiden

Iripmyglovesoff and toss them over the barrier along with my stick. My helmet quickly follows as I shake my sweaty, matted hair. A wicked smile creeps across my lips as I stare down at the floor of the benched area inside the stadium.

The memories come flooding back. I can almost see her sweet body just laying there… So soft. So smooth. My ears are piqued, searching for that gentle, soft moan that she does so well.

I need to get back home. Training is finished and I’m still not sure I’ve completely convinced Vanessa to stay. Every time I look at her, I’ve been aching. Aching to know what she wants, but the trouble is… I don’t think she knows.

I’ve tried everything.

To hell with being too much for some women. I’ve gone all out. I’ve consumed her, shown her my heart and my soul. I’ve come on stronger than ever, and this time, this woman, this beautiful, beautiful girl… She’s still by my side.

But for how long?

“What the fuck is wrong with you today?” Miles Johnson, my captain, barks from behind me.

He jumps the barrier and slumps down on the bench, sliding a hand through his pale blond hair and giving it a scruff. He scrunches the nearest water bottle and misses his mouth with a hard squeeze that shoots over his shoulder.

All at the same time, he ruins the flashback of that intimate night I spent here alone with Vanessa.

I need more. I need to get home.

“Nothing’s wrong,” I spit back. “What’s wrong with you? Baby keeping you up?”

Miles scoffs aggressively, that permanent frown daggering his eyes. “As if, man. Unlike your work rate out there, my little angel is fucking perfect.”

I can’t help but laugh.

Seeing Miles completely smitten by the arrival of his new baby girl makes me feel all kinds of jealous. Everyone in the locker room knew about his relationship with Noah Edward’s sister. Everyone except for Noah, of course. He was too busy wining MVP awards left, right and center to see what was going on.

But even he’s head over heels now.

“Whatever is going on, you need to get your head straight before the game on Sunday,” Miles says, aiming the tip of the drink bottle at me. “We can’t lose this one. Playoffs are coming and we need to be in top form.”
