Thank God. With him visiting, she would bet they wouldn’t have slept a minute.

“I needed a better solution, more practical.”

“So you texted me.”

“Yes.” He glanced at her. “We both slept right after. Your picture in your adorable pink nighty restored my good mood.”

“Ah.” She didn’t add that the sight of his naked muscled chest sent her into a swirl of delicious sensations that lulled her into a happy numbness.

Soon, they entered the highway. He sped up, passing cars.

“You don’t need to speed. I have plenty of time before the plane takes off.”

“Right.” But he didn’t slow down.

When they arrived at the airport, he stopped in front of American Airlines, jumped out and got her carry on out of his trunk. “Have a safe trip. Bye, Madison,” he threw over his shoulder as he rushed back into his car.

“Bye.” Disappointed by his rather cold goodbye, she dragged her carry on through the terminal’s revolving door and spun to wave. But he’d already left.

Guard your heart, you idiot.

She’d been an interesting novelty to him. Nothing more. The charming Rick Lambert was no different than the wealthy womanizers she’d often encountered on her flights. And she would set him out of her mind at the same speed.

Following her routine, Madison went through passport control and security checks and headed to the crew lounge to have coffee and lunch before boarding. An hour later, the crew gathered at the lounge door and proceeded to the gate where the passengers had already lined up.

Together with the pilots and other flight attendants, Madison strode along the gangway and boarded the jet. A first-class flight attendant, she stored her luggage, hung her uniform jacket in the galley closet, and plastered a professional smile on her face to welcome the passengers.

An older woman in a wheelchair required special attention. While her co-worker Sue-Ann greeted the passengers and directed them to their places, Madison helped the elderly woman settle in her seat at the end of the cabin, brought her the blanket she requested, and then a glass of orange juice. The seat belt sign lit up.

“Flight attendants, prepare for take-off please,” the pilot announced.

Madison joined Sue-Ann in the galley. “Sorry, I let you distribute the drinks all by yourself.”

“No big deal. First class is half empty. We won’t be too busy unless the old woman monopolizes our time.”

The plane taxied on the runway, tilted up, and lifted off. After crossing a cocoon of clouds, it soared into the sky and stabilized.

“A passenger just pressed the call button.” Sue-Ann pointed at the blue light on the Area Call Panel.

“Must be Elena Garcia, the old lady I’ve been helping.” Madison unbuckled herself and stood, her eyes fixed on the headboard lights above the first-class seats. The call light shone two seats ahead of Elena’s place, the seat occupied by a dark-haired man peeking out the window.

“You called? How can I help you?” Madison asked.

The man turned his head toward her, and her jaw sagged.

“Rick?” She swallowed, staring at her handsome friend, his dazzling smile and mischievous dimples. “How ...”

He captured her gaze. “When you texted me you wished I could come with you, I couldn’t resist such a sweet request. Especially when I wanted nothing more than to be with you.” His voice had softened to a husky murmur, and her pulse raced.

The sound of a call light attracted her attention. She glanced up, noting its location. Elena needed her.

“Go take care of the woman. We have almost ten hoursduring this flight. I can wait.”

She nodded and glided away. Ten hours of work for her. Did he think she would sit next to him and entertain him?

Elena wanted help to walk to the restroom. Madison unbuckled her, pulled her up and supported her as she proceeded to the stall. “I’ll be out here waiting, Mrs. Garcia. Just open the door when you need me.”

“Thank you, dear. I’ll be fine.”
