She chuckled quietly.

“Do you all stay on the same floor?”

She shrugged. “Usually. They assign a bunch of rooms to the cabin crew.”

“Good. I’ll use the restroom and return to bed. I have a long business day tomorrow.”

Startled, she opened her eyes wide. “What business?”

“I’m meeting with a major client who has a few problems I hope I can solve. This trip will prove very useful.” He left her and opened the door to the lavatory.

Taken aback by his statement, she rolled her eyes. If she’d flown to Moscow or Honk Kong, would he have found a plausible reason to fly on the same plane?

On his way back to his seat, he winked, somehow assuring her he would always suit himself. Now, he wanted to be with her.

Why not? She would live in the present and enjoy it, too.

Chapter Six

“We will be landing in an hour.” The pilot’s voice shook Rick out of a deep slumber. He opened his eyes and blinked, surprised to see the bright sunlight flooding the cabin.

“Good morning, Mr. Lambert. Time for breakfast.” Madison’s chuckle was the best morning greeting he’d received in a long time. He jerked up and stood.

“Good morning. I’ve never slept so well in a plane or anywhere else.” He looked at her and grinned. “I had such luscious dreams. I could’ve slept all the way to the South Pole. Guess what I dreamed of?”

She avoided his gaze and busied herself, removing the sheets and blankets. “I don’t have time for guessing games.” Her blush assured him she’d guessed correctly.

He was in a pleasant mood and didn’t mind teasing her. “I dreamed I was in a private plane, and my lovely flight attendant,” he lowered his voice to a hushed tone, “shared my narrow bed and—”

“Mr. Lambert, would you like eggs or cereal?” Her frosty tone warned him to end the silly joke.

“Eggs, please. Meanwhile, I’ll go change.”

She’d already turned her back and rushed toward the galley.

When he resumed his place, dressed and combed, she’d returned his seat to its original position and set the tray table. She brought him coffee, toast and butter, a bowl of fruit, and an omelet.

“Thank you. It all looks delicious.” They would start the descent soon, and he ate with gusto.

Even after the pilot turned on the seatbelt lights, Madison didn’t return, and the woman’s seat behind him remained empty. A moment later, the two flight attendants slowly walkeddown the aisle, supporting the elderly passenger and escorting her to her place.

Rick bounced off his seat. “Let me help you.”

“No need. We’re almost there. Mrs. Garcia is not feeling well. An ambulance will be waiting for her when we arrive, and we’ve notified her daughter in Buenos Aires,” Madison explained. “There’s nothing else we can do now. We’ll be landing in fifteen minutes. Please, remain in your seat and fasten your seatbelt.”

He nodded and obeyed. Madison and her co-worker helped the woman into her seat and buckled her in, and then collected his dirty plates and returned to the galley.

Rick turned to the window for a peek at the large city laid out beneath him. He’d been here before and could make out the white buildings, green parks, and large avenues. Hopefully, he would have time to visit the beautiful capital with Madison at his side. His thoughts interrupted by the routine noises of the plane, he studied the TV screen showing the landing. A sudden bump alerted him they’d touched down.

“Welcome to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Please remain seated until we reach the gate and the seatbelt sign is turned off.”

Rick pulled out his phone and called the Intercontinental hotel to reserve a room for the night. Reassured he would be staying at the same hotel as Madison, he called his client to announce his arrival and was pleased to learn a driver would pick him up at the hotel and drive him to the company building when he was ready.

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Buenos Aires.” Madison’s clear voice called for attention. She’d put on her uniform jacket. “We are now at the gate. You can unfasten your seatbelts but please remain in your seat until the EMS evacuate a passenger in need of emergency care. I will inform you when you can start getting off the plane.”

Madison opened the front exit door. Two paramedics boarded the plane, and she directed them to Mrs. Garcia. They helped her and supported her to the door.

“Our sick passenger has been taken off. You can now proceed to the door.”
