He peered at her and slowly smiled, his delicious dimples revealing his satisfaction. “I’ll come upstairs to carry your luggage and tuck you into bed.”

“Sounds good. Park your car in the parking lot on the left. It’s reserved for guests.”

He followed her lead and walked with her to the elevator, pulling her carry-on with her handbag on it. In the elevator, she pushed the button for the tenth floor.

“This one serves four condos,” she explained when they stopped at her floor, and she opened the closest door. “Welcome to my place.”

She entered, and he followed her. Letting go of the luggage, he pulled her into his arms.

“I’m sure you want to welcome me the right way.”

This man knew how to make her feel special. She threw her arms around his neck and brought her mouth to his. “Welcometo my place, Rick.”

He kissed her slowly, a tender kiss to help her relax. “Where’s your bedroom?”

“Go left to the corridor and then right.”

He carried her to the bedroom and set her on her bed. “I’ll let you undress, shower, and get into bed.”

When he stepped outside, she called after him. “My fridge is full of cold drinks. Help yourself.”

Energized by his presence, she removed her uniform and let the hot shower relax her aching muscles, then slipped on her pink nighty and towel-dried her hair.

“Rick, I’m in bed.”

He came in with a glass of orange juice in hand and a bagel with cream cheese. “Eat something before you sleep.”

“How about you?”

“You fed me well enough on the plane.” He sat next to her and watched her eat.

“Thank you, Rick. You’re the best.”

“I hope you’ll keep me.”

She thought he was trying to joke. “Yes, I want to keep you, Rick.”

No smile cracked his serious face. An intense glow flashed in his deep blue eyes. “I am yours for as long as you’ll keep me.” He bent and kissed her, holding her tightly in his arms. Sleep well, babe.” He laid her back against the pillow and covered her, then took the empty plate and glass and left the room.

She sighed with delight and drifted off.

When Madison woke from her slumber, it was already dark outside. The rumbling in her stomach reminded her she hadn’t eaten since the early morning. She dragged herself out of bed, checked the time, and chuckled. Only a flight attendant couldsleep twelve hours and still feel sleepy. Barefoot, she padded into the kitchen and found a pink sticky on the isle’s granite counter.

Have a good rest, babe. Call me when you see this.

Her well-stocked freezer offered her tilapia and green beans. She placed them in two pans and added cream of mushroom soup to the vegetables. While her meal baked in the oven, she called Rick.

He answered on the first ring. “Feeling better now?”

She chuckled. “Better and hungry. I’m cooking dinner. How was your day?”

“Busy and productive, jobwise. And I looked into the children’s trip to Florida. We’ll need to arrive in Geneva on Thursday. They’re starting the European All Saints holiday on Friday. Usually we go on a two-week ski trip in the Alps. It’ll be a good time to pick them up and travel home.”

She pulled a notebook from a kitchen drawer and scribbled as he spoke.

“There’s a flight on Saturday. Monday is Halloween, a good way for them to start their life in the US. Can you check all this? See how you can be on the same flight?”
