And there she stood, just beneath the town’s towering clock tower, arguing with a wild haired demon nearly twice her size. Despite the commotion this arrogant female was causing, it wasn’t what she wasdoingthat caught his attention so much as what shewasthat did.

She was a fucking fey.

Antonio could hardly believe his eyes, his jaw slackening. The fey were supposed to be extinct, yet the woman in front of him was undoubtedly of the same species as Giselle. But the similarities between the two women ended there.

While Giselle’s auburn hair effortlessly flowed around the flowers that so often adorned her head, this fey’s ash hair seemed to have been hastily put together in a messy side braid. While Giselle’s elegance was unmatched, her every movement full of grace, this fey was busy yelling slurs at someone who could clearly kill her in an instant as she wildly flailed her arms about, the contents in the mug she held spewing everywhere.

Though fey, this girl was nothing like Giselle. Still, he found himself captivated by the scene unfolding in front of him.

Perhaps his werewolf instinct identified this fey as his mate because she was the same species as his true mate, which was rare to find.

He debated befriending the fey in front of him, suspecting Giselle was going feel completely alone when she was brought into a world where everyone she knew was dead. If Antonio could introduce her to another fey, maybe she wouldn’t feel so alone.

Antonio watched as the demon’s horns began to straighten, a sure sign that the demon was seriously pissed off. He was going to attack at any second, and the fey he planned on attacking was so small. She didn’t stand a chance against him.

Decided that this fey would make a great friend for Giselle, Antonio leaped forward just in time to push the fey away from the demon’s swift fist.

Staring down the demon, Antonio warned, “It’s probably not a good idea to kill one of the last surviving fey, wouldn’t you think so?”

The demon muttered nonsense, grumbling to himself as he walked off. Good riddance.

Antonio looked down to the fey now sprawled out on the ground and offered her a hand. Fey were fragile creatures, he knew from his time with Giselle, no matter how short lived that time was.

“Here, let me help you,” he told the fey when she didn’t grab his hand.

In fact, she surprised him by hitting it away as her face heated in anger. And in an unexpected turn of events the tiny fey creature he had justprotectedbegan screaming athim. “Did youseriouslyget in my way?”

Chapter Six

Antonio Payne

Antonio was stunned, his arm still extended. This little fey couldn’t be as ungrateful as she sounded, could she? He didn’t often speak to anyone outside of the Payne clan. Actually, he didn’teverspeak to anyone outside of the Payne clan. This fey should appreciate his help. He didn’t give it often.

“You think I got in your way?” He finally brought his hand back to his side, no longer offering it to her. “I saved you from gettingbashedby that demon!” Why was he even explaining himself? He should just walk away from this fey and not let her upset him so much.

And yet he stayed.

In one quick and quite impressive move, she jumped up from the ground and onto her feet. “You think I didn’t know he was winding up? I would’ve had him if you hadn’t pushed me!”

In the few weeks Antonio had known Giselle he had seen plenty of fey. There was a reason Giselle had been so terrified of him - because fey were terrified ofeverything. So why was this one acting so fearless? Fey didn’t act this way, it wasn’t in their nature.

Unable to control his frustration, Antonio pulled at his long strands of hair. “Push you?I shoved you out of…” He stopped himself from saying anything more, unable to understand whyhe was allowing this brash stranger to affect him so much. He gave himself a few moments to compose himself. After believing he calmed down enough he said, as calmly as he could manage, “You’re out of your mind.” He half expected to walk off after that comment, but some unseen force held him there.

She placed firm hands on her hips, laughing. “I’m out of my mind? Why, because I gave a demon exactly what he had coming for him?”

“And why’d he deserve your attitude?”

“Because thatassholeslapped my ass. Did I deservethat?”

Antonio tightened his fists in anger. This woman, though totally out of her mind, shouldn’t have been touched by anyone that way. The fact that she was one of the last surviving fey - a gentle, kindhearted species - made it all the more sickening.

“To a fucking fey?”

“Alright, let’s not sound like I’m any different because I’m fey, alright?”

He understood how his words could’ve offended her. Though, because of his history with Giselle, hedidlook at the fey differently than other species in the unnatural world. But he wasn’t about to explain that to this one.

“I shouldn’t have said that.” It was true, in a sense. He should have kept his thoughts to himself. “Just try being a bit smarter, alright?” In other words, tone it down. At her dumbfounded expression he added, “Egging on one of the strongest species in the unnatural world isn’t smart.” He wanted to add, especially if you’re a fey, but decided it was best to leave that unsaid.
