“Do you trust me?”

“Always.” How could she not when he was constantly showing her how much she should, never giving her a reason notto? “Nothing but time,” she whispered, reveling in the way those words rolled off her tongue.

The possibility of a future with him, unthreatened by the boundaries of time, where she’d have endless opportunities to divulge her innermost secrets to him, thrilled her.

He must’ve felt the same way because his smile was so real, so vulnerable. It filled her with light, flooding her with bliss.

Then he kissed her, and they shared a kiss that burned in ways so unlike any of the ones before. This one was different.

This was not frenzied, it was sensual. It was notphysicallyaggressive, but aggressive in ways that tugged at her heart, forcing it wide open. It revealed her weaknesses and strengths, his weaknesses and strengths, entangling their imperfections together until it -they- simply feltright. The slow, heated movement of their lips seemed to click the two of them into place like puzzle pieces. They simply fit, and this kiss was telling her how important it was that she understood this.

Yes, they were important. Maybe not to the world, but they were important to each other, and that was enough.

He slid a hand into her hair, his other gripping her waist and holding her close. His touch was tender yet claiming. You will always have me,his movements whispered to her, and she believed those whispers. She believed them very much.

He drew back, cupping her face in his calloused hands. It took her a moment before she could break free from the moment they just shared. When she finally did, she realized she was looking into eyes filled with so much emotion she swore she saw stars in them, the sparkle in them telling her that he saw every demon she possessed, saw all her imperfections, and loved her anyway. Loved her more because of them.

“I never felt this grounded before. Not before I met you. But when I’m with you… you ground me.”

“I ground you?”

He answered by pressing a kiss to each of her cheeks, followed by her neck. A chill swept over her when he grazed her collarbone with the sweet caress of his breath. Soon enough, she was shivering, her desire growing once more.

“Ah woman, how I need you.” He gripped the bottom of her shirt and pulled it off. “Need toseeyou.” The crisp breeze kissed her now bare chest, a sweet reminder that she stood half undressed in front of him and was perfectly content doing so.

Need flickered across his eyes, but that flicker didn’t look anything like it did the night his beast rose.

No, Antonio remained perfectly in control.

He sucked in a breath at the sight of her breasts and her nipples swelled when he did. Though it looked like he was going to feast on her, and gods she wanted him to so badly, she found herself saying, “Your shirt,” and bringing her hands to it. “Let me.”

His brow raised in delightful amusement as he let her lift his shirt over his head.

At the sight of him, she lost her breath. The way his muscles rippled under the moonlight, and the way that dusky trail of hair created a path that led beneath his jeans…

He looked like a god.Hergod. Because he was all hers, wasn’t he?

Sheneededto touch him. So, she brought shaking hands up to his stomach, tracing her fingers along the rigid lines that outlined his abdomen. She noticed how his body tensed at her touch, as if he was restraining himself from devouring her, and that made the lines of his stomach all the more defined, all the more easy to trace.

“Fuckwoman,” he said through gritted teeth. Yes, he was definitely struggling to hold himself back. “If you keep that up, I’ll…”

When she looked up to his face, she wanted him to see every bit of desire she felt for him. “You’ll what?” She began unbuttoning his pants and he growled up to the night sky.

She gasped when his erection flung free. Thesizeof it. She had no idea. And how that tip glistened, beckoning her to taste it.

She stared at it in wonder, and Antonio must have felt that stare, because the way he said,“Fia,”- in such a guttural, animalistic tone - had her mind running wild.

If the simple touch of her fingers against his stomach could give him so much pleasure, how would he react when she had him in her mouth?

“Just a taste.”

Dropping to her knees, she decided she was about to find out.

Chapter Fifty-Six

Antonio Payne

Antonio tossed his head to the sky, unable to get the image of the Sophia’s expectant look out of his head.
