When she moaned into his mouth, her nails digging into his back, he damn well lost his mind, wildly pounding her as she undulated beneath him.

This sexy little fey, underhim, and she was all his. Tonight and every night thereafter.

When she seized beneath him, her sex clenching around his, he followed her in ecstasy, bellowing out to the night as his seed pumped into her, filling her.

He collapsed against her and remained there for long moments, listening to her heavy breaths and the rapid beating of her heart, a heart he still needed to win. He would win it, he determined. Hopefully soon. Because there was no going back for him. Not after this.

After some time had passed - seconds, minutes, or hours he hadn’t a clue - he rolled onto his back beside her and looked up. The full moon, now high in the sky, was brighter than he recalled it ever being before.

Yet his beast still hadn’t risen. By some miracle, the monster within him slept. Tonight he was in control.

He looked at Sophia with a feral grin. He might still be in control, but that wasn’t going to stop him from enjoying his first full moon with his mate.

And he’d make sure she enjoyed it just as much.

Chapter Fifty-Seven

Antonio Payne

As the stars began to fade with the early morning light, Antonio finally found it in him to relax, his arm curling around Sophia, holding her tightly against his chest. He couldn’t stop watching her, entranced by the way she marveled at the world around her, her eyes glimmering with unrestrained excitement.

He recalled seeing her like this - gazing at the sky in this exact state of hopeful bliss - once before. She had done it on the night she met his beast. The night she had accepted him for who he was, his worst bits and all.

Antonio ran his fingers through her hair, marveling at her the same way she marveled at the world. She truly was a wonder. Hiswonder.

“You know,” Sophia began, “I don’t entirely understand why you hate your beast so much. I liked him very much tonight.”

While he appreciated the sentiment, she was confused, surely. “My beast didn’t rise today.”

“Are you sure about that?” Her words sounded like a challenge.

“I’m certain of it.”

“Well I’m certain it did.” She turned on his chest until she was facing him, propping her chin up on her hands. Though shewas no longer looking at the sky, starlight continued to dance in her eyes.

“Is that so?”

“Absolutely.” She flashed him a wry grin. “Have you forgotten I’ve already come face to face with your beast?” No, he hadn’t forgotten. Not at all. She read his expression, seeming to come to some conclusion of her own before continuing. “That’s what I thought. Your eyes change when your wolfish side is present. Not physically, per say, but… there’s something different about them. Something visibly different. Tonight they were different. No question about it.”

He creased his eyes together. Could it be possible she was right?

When he thought about it, hedidtake her all night, and no force on earth would’ve stopped him.

But that need to kill, that complete loss of control… those problematic behaviors weren’t present. He had control over his actions all night and the thought of hurting Sophia never crossed his mind. It hadn’t even been remotelycloseto crossing his mind.

What if…

No, it couldn’t be true.

Could it?

He had never heard anyone in his clan complain about their beasts. In fact, they all looked forward to the night of the full moon. Antonio was the only one who didn’t. He was the only one who despised his beast. And though he swore his beast didn’t rise last night his instincts had been heightened, his most primal needs greater than they had ever been before.

Maybe his beast wasn’tgonebutfixed.

Thinking out loud, he said, “There was a time before Giselle…” He had a life before Giselle. A long life where he had been perfectly content with the wolfish side within him. Hehadn’t lost total control over himself until after Giselle had died. “Not gone but fixed…” He spoke his realization out loud.

He broke the day Giselle died, in more ways than one. But he wasn’t broken anymore.
