“This is what I am saying, yes.”

“You scoundrel!” I said, pretending to be offended.

“What does this word mean? Scoundrel?”

“It’s American slang. Or British. I don’t really know. But a scoundrel is someone who is up to no good. A bad person.”

“Ah,” he said, “so it is the opposite of a cunt-waffle, yes?”

I burst out laughing at that. I had forgotten that Melinda told him the wrong meaning of the word that day when he visited ACS.

Furio pushed up onto one elbow to look over at me. “Why is this funny?”

“Long story.” I wondered if I should tell him the truth, but decided against it. The moment was too perfect. “I don’tactuallythink you are a scoundrel. I was only teasing.”

“So you are not mad how I planned things?”

I shook my head. “I’m glad you did. I have had a wonderful trip. Even beforethispart of it.”

“As have I,” Furio said, kissing my shoulder softly. “It was far more enjoyable than if Jude had come instead.”

“Yeah, no kidding,” I said. “Jude probably wouldn’t have put out until thesecondweek here.”

Furio roared with laughter, and I joined him. The laughs turned into more kisses, as warm and pleasant as the fire crackling just a few feet away.

“I wish I didn’t have to leave in the morning,” I said.

Furio raised an eyebrow at me. “The beautiful thing about owning a private jet is that it can leave whenever you desire.”

I shook my head before I could be tempted by the thought. “I need to get back. We have a ton of new employees starting, and Melinda has me meeting with them all week. And I need to catch up on everything I missed while I was here.”

“Perhaps I could have you fired,” Furio suggested. “Then you will have no work to do, and you could stay here until such a time that I am sick of you.”

I gave him a playful tickle, which he stopped easily by grabbing my hand. He grinned down at me while I pouted helplessly.

“Even if I did get fired,” I said, “I’m sure you are a very busy man.”

Furio’s smile faded, and he fell onto the pillows next to me. “I do have a trip to London tomorrow. But I would cancel it for you, if you stayed.”

I leaned over and kissed his cheek. “I appreciate the thought. But no.” I frowned. “Wait a minute. If I’m taking your private jet, then how are you getting to London?”

“I am chartering another plane,” he said simply. “It is not as nice as my own, but it is a short flight.”

“Aww,” I said. “You’re giving meyourplane while slumming it on some rando’s.”

“Of course,” he replied, confused. “I would not make you fly back on a commercial flight.”

“Careful, or I’m going to get spoiled,” I said. “I’m not used to this kind of luxury.”

“You would never be spoiled,” he said confidently. “A woman like you has a spirit which is never satisfied.”

“I’m feeling pretty satisfied right now,” I joked.

But Furio didn’t laugh. He fixed me with an intense look, like he was seeing more than just what was in front of him. “It is something I admire about you, Amber. You seem to be the kind of woman who is always striving for more. You never want to become complacent. It is admirable.”

“I’m not sure I would call my driveadmirable, but thank you.” His comment reminded me of a question I had myself, so I said, “Can I ask you something?”

“You may ask the world of me,” he said wistfully.
