And as I gripped her thighs tightly, burying myself as deep as I could inside of her, I was glad for it.

Breathless and sweaty, the two of us moved to the couch to cuddle. That same curtain of hair was now splayed out on my chest, with Amber’s warm cheek pressed against my belly. Her head rose and fell with every breath I took, a satisfying weight against me.

“Where are you from?” she asked suddenly.

“Virginia. A suburb just outside of Richmond.”

I felt her face twist in a frown against my skin. “Then why does Owen call you Boston?”

I pointed over at the wall. Amber’s round eyes swung to the framed degree hanging there. “Got my degree at MIT.”

“That’s it?” she asked. “It’s not as if you have a thick Boston accent or anything.”

“Owen isn’t the most creative guy. When I moved to San Jose and applied to his little cryptocurrency project, it was that MIT degree that made him consider me. So it just sort of stuck.”

“Where did he go to school?” she asked.

“San Diego State,” I replied. “Only for three years. He dropped out because he wanted to work on what he thought would be the next big tech idea.”

“PayScale?”

I ran my fingers through her hair, savoring the way it felt. “No, something else. I don’t remember the name. It flopped, though. So did the project after that.Thenhe thought of PayScale, and the rest is history.”

“A dropout,” she mused. “Figures. Only someone cocky like him could think he could drop out and still be successful.”

“Like I’ve said: he’s really quite smart. And heissuccessful, obviously.” I stared at the leather stitching on the couch. “If he had not dropped out, our paths probably would not have crossed. My life would be quite different.”

Amber twisted to look up at me. “I don’t want to think about him. I want to think aboutyou, and what we just did.”

She brushed her lips against mine, soft and exploring. I ran my thumb against her cheek and wondered how I had gotten so lucky.

“Speaking of that,” I said. “You seemed to get very tense when I started to… you know. In the chair.”

I felt her tense once more. “Oh…”

“It’s not a big deal,” I said. “I just didn’t know if you thought I would be bad at it or something…”

“No!” she quickly said. “It’s not you. It’s me. I… I don’t like having a guy go down on me. I would rather have the real thing.” Her body slid against mine, causing me to stir all over again. “And the real thing? It was very, verygood.”

I grinned back at her. Obviously I had enjoyed it every bit as much as she had, if not more. I could still feel myself inside of her, and the way she moaned and tightened around my shaft…

“Not bad for my first week in the office, huh?” she said.

All at once, the memory disappeared and guilt flooded into me. Amber was my employee. I had power over her. That imbalance tainted everything we did together.

And if anyone found out about it…

“Stop it,” she snapped.

I gave a start. “Stop what?’

“Thinking those thoughts.” She poked me in the forehead. “I can see the gears grinding like a grandfather clock. You’re worried that you shouldn’t do this, even though you reallywantto do it.”

“Amber, if anyone found out—”

“I’m not going to tell anyone,” she insisted. “Are you?”

“No. But if—”
