Owen leaned back in his chair. The person on the phone kept talking about contract law.

“You think you’re so clever, don’t you?” I said.

Owen gave me the mostinfuriatingsmile. “I know I’m clever. But why am I clever in this specific instance?”

I pulled out the wireless repeater from my bag and tossed it on his desk.

“In my defense, I really did have to piss,” he said.

“I thought our little war was over! You said it was time to, and I quote, act like adults!”

“Right.”

“But you justhadto get one final shot in first.”

“Of course,” he said simply. “I had to make it even.”

I gritted my teeth. “It’snoteven. I’ve gotten you twice. You’ve hit me three times.”

“Three?” The sharp lines of his face tightened in puzzlement. “Let’s see. The first time was your phone. Then your Facebook account. That’s only two.”

“You’re forgetting the rooftop deck!” I practically shouted. “That’s what started all of this!”

“The rooftop deck doesn’t count,” he said offhandedly. “The firsthackwas what you did to my condo. All of my actions have been in response. One second.”

He held up a finger at me—an infuriating gesture, like I wasn’t worthy of his time—and unmuted the phone. “I do like that strategy. Be sure to run it by Jessica for the funding specifics. Those European banks can be twitchy.”

He muted the phone again. “Okay, what were we talking about?”

“My Facebook profile! You added a new photo of mein a furry suit!”

“Oh, right.”

“How did you do it?” I demanded.

Owen picked up the wireless repeater from the desk and twirled in between his fingers. “Seems obvious to me.”

“Not accessing my account. I know how you did that. I mean the photo. It looks just like me!”

“I was pretty good at Photoshop back in the day. I got the picture of your face from one of your family photos. You, your sister, and your dad at the beach. You all looked really happy. That’s why you’re smiling in the furry suit.”

“Give me the password,” I demanded.

He shook his head. “I don’t think so. My profile remained altered for five days before I changed it back. I’ll give you the password on Saturday. That’s only fair.”

There wasn’t anything I could say to make him change his mind. That was clear. And arguing with him was only giving him more pleasure.

“This isn’t over,” I promised.

He smirked at me. “I’m sure it isn’t. Go ahead and do your worst. But,” he held up a finger, “if you do anything to jeopardize ACS or the pending investment deal, Iwillfire you. So choose your target wisely.”

I felt his grin on my back as I marched down the hall to my office.

I sat in my office and glared at the computer monitor for several minutes. I was too angry to move. The worst part was that my brain couldn’t think of a good way to get back at Owen yet. Probably because I’d only had half a cup of coffee at home before learning about the hack.
