I gritted my teeth. Just her words were almost enough to make me explode. “Are you sure? I want to give you time.”

“I don’t need time. I need you to fuck me hard.” Wrapping her legs around my hips, she put her hands, palm down, on the counter behind her. Her robe had fallen off one shoulder, her breasts begging for my touch. I covered them with my hands, thrust back into her, then pulled out. “Yes,” she sobbed, closing her eyes and letting her head fall back.

That was enough. Gripping her hips to keep her still, I watched her expression as I pulled out and shoved back in hard again. Pleasure flitted across her face as I did it again and again and again, harder and harder, until I felt her contract around me, her body convulsing against me and her legs squeezing tight around my waist. That’s when I finally let myself go, sliding my arm around her to keep her still as I pumped into her until my own body jerked in climax.

Zara wrapped her arms around my shoulders and pressed her face into my neck, her body jittering in recovery. I pulled her robe back up over her shoulder and held her close, breathing in the scent of her as my heart rate returned to normal.

“What is it about us and kitchens?” I asked when she raised her head, her eyes sleepy and happy as she smiled at me.

CHAPTER18

Zara

“Hey Zara, how’s it going?”

“Good thanks, Jake. You?”

“Great.” He moved around to the back of the truck and helped Gabe unload the equipment.

“I see you got the skip. Great timing, we’ll be able to throw the concrete straight in.” Gabe leaned the jackhammer against the truck. “You got anywhere we can plug this in? Oh, hi, Allegra.”

“Hi. It’s Ally, if you don’t mind.” I raised my brows in surprise at Ally’s curt correction. It was so unlike her.

Gabe smiled. “Sure. Sorry.”

Matt’s truck rounded the curve in the drive and came to a stop next to Gabe’s. “So much hotness,” Ally whispered from just behind me, ignoring my hiss to be quiet. “Hey, Matt! Hi, Lucy.”

“Hi, Ally. You up for a big day?”

“Sure am.”

Matt shook hands with Gabe and Jake, then turned to me with a smile. “Hey.”

As much as I had prepared myself, I felt his gaze like a punch in the guts. I had to curl my fingers into fists to stop from reaching for him and wondered how the hell I was going to get through the day and keep my hands to myself. “Hi.”

“Zara, where can I plug this in?”

I dragged my gaze away from Matt to look at Gabe. “Sorry?”

“Where’s the best place for me to plug in the jackhammer?”

“Oh, right. Yes. Um, the garage is probably the most convenient.”

“Great. We’ll get set up.”

While Jake was dragging the cord of the jackhammer to the garage, Gabe assigned jobs. “Okay, so we’ll rotate the jackhammering work because it’s pretty tiring. Whoever’s doing it wears a pair of these.” He waved a pair of vibration dampening gloves in the air. “I’ll go first. Starting at the bottom of the drive and working back toward the bin, we’ll move in sections. I’ll start by breaking up a section, and when I’ve cleared it, you guys can come in and pull up the pieces of concrete. Load them into wheelbarrows, we’ve got a few so we can keep the flow moving. Empty the barrows into the skip, start all over again, rinse, repeat. We’ve got a load of gravel coming at about two o’clock and it will be easier for us if the concrete is finished by then. All good?”

Everyone nodded, and Gabe got to work. He’d been at it for less than ten minutes when I saw Emma walking across the yard. “Hey! Lucy texted me, said there was a party going on.” She looked around. “Not sure this is my kind of party, though,” she said, grinning at Lucy.

“Mine either,” Lucy replied, “but you know, the more the merrier.”

“So, what is actually happening here?”

“We’re lifting up all the broken concrete, throwing it in that big bin over there, then replacing it with gravel.”

“Oh, that’ll look great.”

“Yeah, I hope so. Christ, it’s noisy work though.”
