“Great, thanks, Gabe. Oh, and before Chloe beats me to it, everyone’s coming for dinner tonight, if you guys would like to join us.”

“Sounds good! I’ll head home first to clean up, and I’ll grab some drinks on my way back.”

“Perfect. What about you, Jake?”

“I’d love to.”

Zara smiled. “Okay then. Come on girls, let’s get inside and get this pizza party started.” I followed them inside, placing the box on the counter. Zara started removing the contents. “Matthew, can you grab the girls a couple of chairs to stand on?”

“Sure.”

I brought the chairs for Chloe and Mila, then scooted out of the way as Zara and Ally got to work. Ally started by getting the girls set up to make the pizza dough.

“Okay, girls, pour this water in here. That’s it… Now this…” She handed Mila an envelope of dried yeast, gave a small spoon to Chloe for the sugar. “Perfect, good job, ladies.”

“Ooh, Ally, is this your dad’s feta cheese?” Zara asked excitedly.

Ally glanced over, grinning. “Yep, looks like it.” She quickly went back to helping the girls pour flour into the mixing bowl before they spilled it everywhere.

Zara sliced off a small portion of cheese, popped it in her mouth, rolled her eyes in ecstasy, sliced off another for me. “Ally’s Dad makes his own feta, from milk from the goats on their farm. It’s amazing.”

“Hmm, it’s good. Your parents have a farm?”

“Yeah, we grow stuff for the restaurant there. Farm to table, you know.”

“That’s awesome.”

“Jeez, there’s enough spinach here to satisfy Popeye.” Zara drummed her fingers on the countertop, considering. “If only I had a pasta machine here. Spinach and Fetta Cannelloni would be perfect.”

“Well, it just so happens I have one in my car.”

“You have a pasta machine in your car? What the…?”

“I just picked it up. It’s for one of the girls at work, but she won’t mind if we take it for a quick test run. I’ll grab it.”

I moved to take up Ally’s position behind the girls, supervising them mixing the flour and salt together. “You seem pretty relaxed about all this.”

Zara shrugged. “Go with the flow, I always say.”

“Do you really, now?” I gave her a quizzical look.

Laughing, she replied, “Busted. Not usually, no. But it’s a new thing I’m trying out, not overthinking everything.” I reached over, wrapped my fingers around her wrist and pulled her toward me. She came willingly, a sexy smile curving her lips.

“I like this new thing.” I bent forward, kissing her. We were interrupted by Ally banging heavily on the front door with her foot, calling for someone to come and open it. I rushed out, taking the pasta machine from her as she came through the door.

“Sorry, it’s heavier than I thought. The guy at the store put it in the car for me.”

I followed her into the kitchen, placing it on the counter.

“How’s it going over there, girls?” Ally stood on tiptoe to look over the girls’ heads as they stirred the flour.

“Good. But Uncle Matt won’t stop kissing Zara.” Chloe rolled her eyes. “He kisses her aalll the time. Gross.”

Her eyes twinkling at Chloe’s obvious disgust and Zara’s blush, Ally replied, “Wow, seriously gross!”

“’Zactly!” Chloe replied, gratified.

“Okay, now this is the fun part.” Ally reached for the bowl of water and yeast. “Make a hole in the flour like this… That’s it. Now we pour this in and stir it around. Good job.”
