“Okay, I’ll be right back,” Ginger says before leaving our section.

Sitting back, I pull out my lighter, my 3-finger leather cigar case with a stainless-steel cutter in its sleeve pocket from the inside of my suit jacket. I slide the cutter from its sleeve to cut the tip of the cigar, then put it back. Placing the case on the table, I light the end of the cigar, rolling the tobacco in the flame. I love the smell of a good cigar. You can tell by the aroma if a cigar is cheap which is why I buy the best.

When the tip of the cigar is a fiery red, I remove the lighter, sitting it on top of the case. Bringing the cigar to my lips, I take a long drag, savoring the flavor. As I exhale the smoke through my nostrils like a bull, Rory approaches.

“Well, if it isn’t the rest of the Kourakos clan. You two must be in town to see the baby,” he says, extending his hand to me.

“Yes, we are. Good to see you, Rory,” I state, shaking his hand.

“You too,” he returns, then shakes Basil hand.

Gesturing to the empty spot on the end of the horseshoe couch, I invite, “Sit, have a drink with us.”

“Thanks,” Rory obliges, taking a seat. “I’ll have to get going in a bit, so I’ll take a raincheck on the drink. So, how long will you guys be in town?”

“We’ll be leaving back out the day after tomorrow,” Basil replies, taking a sip of the bubbly.

“Damn, talk about in and out,” Rory chuckles as Ginger returns, holding a tray with a bottle of Hardy XO and two shot glasses on it.

As she sits them on the table, she turns to Rory and asks, “Would you like something, Rory?”

“No, sweetheart. I’m fine,” he replies with a charming smile as she fills the shot glasses.

“Alright, well if you gents need anything just wave me over, if not I’ll be back in a few to check on you,” Ginger says before spinning on her heels, then putting a little extra bounce in her step to make that short fucking skirt spring up and down, showing more of her ass.

With my free hand, I pick up my shot glass. “I must say, my cousin has some very attractive women working here.” I throw the shot back, downing the contents in one swallow.

“Indeed, he does,” Rory grins.

As I motion for Basil to pour me another shot, I add, “Just like the dancer you were tossing all of your money too.”

Rory jovial expression flashes to one of irritation before he quickly goes back to his happy face.

“Yes, Joy is a very beautiful woman. She and I have been dating for the last two months,” he says, picking up Basil’s shot glass, then taking it all in with on swift motion.

No wonder he was standing by the stage. He was making it known to all the other men in the club that she belonged to him. They could throw their money but if one of them tried to touch her, I dare not think what Rory would’ve done.

As if Basil was reading my mind, he questions. “So, you’re good with your woman being a stripper? I don’t know if I could handle all these men gawking at my woman. I’d probably put a bullet in someone’s head if I saw the drool fall from their mouths.”

Rory laughs. “See, that’s the thing. I met Joy here and she like what she does. We have an understanding. She can dance and make her money but I’m the only man she will come home to at night.”

Glancing over at the hallway in the far-right corner, I see Joy appear with a duffle bag over her shoulder. As she tries to maneuver her way around the tables and patrons an overweight man sitting at a table with three other thirty something year old men, grabs her wrist.

Tossing back my shot, I inform Rory, “You two might have an understanding but I don’t think he know that.”

Rory whips his head towards Joy trying to pull her arm from the man’s grip.

“The fuck?” Rory growls as he stands to his feet. I nod to Basil. We slide from our seats and follow behind Rory.

Rory’s like a pit bull on a mission as he pushes his way through the crowd. As we get closer to Joy and the asshole, he’s yelling over the music, “I promise I can make it worth your while.”

“And like I told you, I’m not interested. Now, let go of my fucking arm,” Joy hisses, trying to snatch her arm from his grip but he holds on tighter.

This only pisses the idiot off as his face turns beet red. “Look bitch, I threw a lot of money on that stage, so I’ve pretty much paid for that brown ass of yours. You’re going to give me...”

His words are silenced when Rory hits him with a right hook so hard, I felt my own teeth rattle. The guy immediately releases Joy with his eyes rolling to the back of his head as he falls back into his chair. The men sitting at his table stand, ready to jump to his defense but Basil and I stop their actions when we pull our guns, aiming at them. All their bravado quickly deflates as they raise their hands like we’re about to rob their asses.

“Are you alright,” Rory asks, checking Joy out but she looks like she wants to lay hands on the unconscious guy.
