“Roger that” Alistair responds before he goes back to playing with his gun.

Basil looks over at me, smiling as he shakes his head. He too knows how volatile our cousin can be at times. Balthazar has his hands full trying to keep Alistair in check but if it were up to me, I’d let his wild side have full reign.

By the time we’re two blocks from Hollis’ building night has fallen. Movement in the area has diminished to panhandlers and very few cars moving up and down the streets. My men in the third SUV behind Malichi turn off to post up in their spots. After stopping at the stop sign before Hollis’ block, Basil makes a left turn while Malichi and the others continue forward. Basil then turns right, taking us down the trashy alleyway.

“The alarm has been disabled,” Tech says through our earpieces. “If there are any calls to the police, I can only block them for up to ten minutes, so you need to get in there and do what you need to do.”

“Got it,” I say as Basil brings the SUV to a stop outside of the backdoor. “Is everyone locked and loaded?”

“I stay locked and loaded,” Alistair replies.

“I’m ready, brother,” Basil responds, killing the engine.

I might not have all my family here but for the ones that are, I am truly grateful.

Opening my door, I leap out, kicking the door close as I draw my weapons. Basil pulls out a crowbar as we rush to the backdoor. After two attempts to dislodge it, the door springs open.

Entering first, I raise my gun, shooting a man who’s coming towards our way. As his body falls to the floor, I whisper to the others, “All clear.”

We step into a stockroom that reminds me of Deanna’s except there’s not a door to her apartment. Also, where her stockroom is clean and orderly, this one has old boxes and shit all over the floor.

Exiting the stockroom, we come to a long hallway with two doors on the left side and one on the right. I creep up to the first one while Basil and Alistair go for the second and third. Twisting the knob, I push the door open to a room filled with more boxes and papers thrown around. With no one in the room, I turn to keep going. When Basil reaches for knob at the second door, it suddenly opens. The man on the other side sees Basil with the gun in his hand. He lunges at Basil while trying to take the pistol.

“Shit,” I sneer, trying to aim my gun at the man but with them tussling over the gun, I can’t get a good shot off. Like me, Alistair is running towards them but before we can reach them, Basil headbutts the motherfucker. As the man’s head goes back Basil bites down on his neck. A silent cry leaves the man as Basil snatches away a chunk of skin. The man stops fighting and brings his hands up to his neck, trying to stop his blood from draining from him. Basil steps back, spitting the man’s flesh at him as he drops to his knees, then slumps over.

“You should always wipe your mouth after you eat,” Alistair whispers, holding out a black bandana to Basil. Basil smiles, taking it from him.

“Let’s keep going,” I tell them.

We clear the other rooms, then go down another hall. This one only has two doors. The first one is opened to an office. A laptop and a briefcase sit on the desk. I make a mental note to come back and retrieve it later.

Voices guide us toward the next door. I hold up my fist, stopping them as we approach. This door is ajar. Peeking through the crack, I see Hollis with two men sitting at a table with a map on it. Four more men stand guard close to them. They’re probably the assholes Hollis sends out to do his dirty work. The one on the far right has a pistol shoved in the front of his waist band, so I assume the other three are armed too.

Moving back, I turn to Basil and Alistair, then mouth, “Hollis” I then hold up two fingers, letting them know about at the table. Next, I hold up four fingers, then make a shooting gesture with my gun. They give a thumbs up. I take a deep breath as we move back in place.

Hollis points to the map, saying, “This area here, I’ve just about taken it over. The only thing stopping me is that bitch who won’t give up that fucking bookstore but after last night, I think she will fall in line like the others.”

“That’s a lot of thinking,” I say, catching him and the other men off guard as we rush inside.

The four saps go for their guns only to be shot down quickly by Basil and Alistair.

The two men at the table look on horrified as blood lands them. As Hollis looks at the bullet ridden bodies, his face transforms into one of pure hatred. He brings his cold eyes to me as he slowly rises from his seat.

“You will never get away with this. I’m the son of a District Attorney,” Hollis spews before squinting his eyes at me. “I know you. You’re the asshole from Mythos.”

“I am,” I confirm.

“What the fuck do you want? I have no quarrel with you,” Hollis hisses.

I let out a low laugh, tilting my head to the side. “Oh, you have a big fucking quarrel with me. Had I known you would end up on the top of my kill list, I would’ve killed you that night at Mythos. Conrad Hollis, son of District Attorney Morgan Hollis or should I say the black sheep of the Hollis family. I know everything about you...Conrad.”

Hollis’ left eye twitches as he tries to keep his composure. “Since you know everything about me, who the fuck are you?”

I smirk. “Yiorgos Kourakos”

The man sitting on Hollis’ right lowers his head, murmuring, “Fuck”

Hollis twists to his direction. “Do you know him, John?”
