“Come in guys,” she says.

One by one we fall in line to go into the house. I took the last spot and when I got close enough to Sydney, I questioned, “What the hell is going on?”

With her eyes swollen from crying, she tried to put on an encouraging smile, replying, “Baby, I still don’t know. Momma and daddy wanted everyone here before they revealed what was going on.”

I wanted to question her more but after seeing her in this state, I refrained. The only thing I could do was to wrap her in my warmth to let her know no matter what the situation is, I had her and her family’s back.

We found everyone in the living room. As the others sat on the couches and recliners, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan stood before them. Their eyes looked like Sydney’s, so I’m anxious to hear what this is all about.

Mr. Morgan went first. “I’m sorry if you all came here thinking that we had been victims of an attack which could never be the case because most of you know I’m going to defend mine till the end.”

“So, what is this about, Uncle Clint?” Booker asks.

With tears in his eyes, Mr. Morgan responds, “I’m so happy you are the one to ask that nephew.”

Mr. Morgan says no more as he turns to the hallway to the right. Moments later a man who resembles Mr. Morgan and Booker appears. Booker’s jaw drops as he slides off the couch and onto his knees.

“Daddy,” he gasps.

“Uncle Elijah,” Sydney whispers as she leaves my grasp.

Sydney told me the stories about her uncle and to see him embrace his son had me reaching out for my daddy. I could never understand the ordeal that Booker had to deal with being without his father for all these years. Sydney said Booker would visit him every chance he got but it still couldn’t compare to having this moment without guards watching over you.

To see Booker this vulnerable made me realize how the power of having a father in your life is impacting. Batista never knew his parents, but daddy always treated him like he was family.

We came here thinking the worst, not knowing what to expect, but in the end Uncle Elijah was the piece to complete our family.

Mrs. Morgan wanted to go into the kitchen and start cooking, but I persuaded her to let me call in an order to the Cajun Bistro. I requested double of everything on the menu.

As we waited for the food to arrive, Sydney introduced me, Batista, and Reiner to Uncle Elijah. He welcomed us with open arms, which I appreciated. Daddy, Mr. Morgan, and Uncle Elijah caught up while the rest of us played dominos. Sydney was my partner but after the third hand, I was starting to wonder if she was on my side or her momma’s and Bookers because they were putting a hurting on us.

After we lost the last hand, I was ready to relinquish my seat to the next players. It baffled me how Sydney could be so lucky at the High Rollers table but not in dominos. I think it was a conspiracy, but I’ll keep my thoughts to myself.

Once the food arrived, Reiner helped Mrs. Morgan arrange it on the two connecting picnic tables in the backyard. With everything in place, Mrs. Morgan called for us to come and eat.

Everyone took their seats with Mr. Morgan sitting at the head of the picnic table and Uncle Elijah at the other end. It took some time, but the Morgan brothers were finally back together again.

When the day started to turn into night, Mr. Morgan decided to end things, stating that it was his younger brother’s first night home and he wanted to spend it with immediate family. I totally understood that. I’d feel the same way if it was my family.

Sydney walked me out to the SUV promising to come by the house when she got off work the next day. As I kissed her goodbye, I wanted to hold onto her longer, but I didn’t want to be selfish. She and Booker needed this time to spend with Uncle Elijah.

As daddy, Batista, and Reiner came out, I gave Sydney another kiss, before leaving with the others. Today turned out to be special because the Morgan’s were able to finally put their family back together again. Now, we just have to wait and see what the future holds for both the DeLuca’s and Morgan’s clan.
