Epilogue

One Month Later

“Sydney, love, the car is waiting for us,” I shouted, adjusting my tie in the mirror next to the front door.

“Here I come,” she yelled back.

I laughed, knowing it would be another ten minutes before she would appear.

We’re getting ready to meet our families at Bourbon Bistro for dinner. This was something I planned two weeks ago and wanted everyone to be there.

After the showdown at the casino that resulted in Reiner taking his uncle’s life, we worried about his mental state from the act, but he seemed stronger by the ordeal. As I wanted to be the person to send John Paul to the afterlife, Reiner deserved to pull the trigger after hearing how he was treated by his so-called family. I didn’t want to see it in the beginning, but luckily with Sydney staying on me about giving him a chance, I was able to see that he was nothing like his family.

Reiner had been through so much; he didn’t know how to get out of it. Him coming here with Gregor and seeing how a family is supposed to treat each other set him on the right path.

With John Paul disappearing and Reiner being the only next of kin in the Maldau family, all assets and title of his family was turned over to him. Sydney, Batista, Booker, and I drove back with him to Houma to make sure everything was in order for him.

Yes, Reiner was young, but he had proven that he could take over. Once everything was in order, we hugged Reiner, wishing him nothing but success in whatever the future had in store for him.

Since leaving Reiner to build his empire, we have traveled back to check in on him, and the young man has done well for himself. He has more men under him and because of that, I’m happy that he is a part of my family.

Sydney was correct about Benny. Before we left the casino, he informed us Mr. Morgan had informed him on what was going on. Benny being at the Poker game was set up by him and Mr. Morgan. Benny was sent there by Mr. Morgan as backup unbeknownst to us. After looking at the Poker schedule, I noticed Benny had bought a seat for the next five games. I guess Mr. Morgan knew eventually something was going to happen sooner or later.

Back in Shreveport, things went back to normal for me and my lady. Business has been good for the both of us. Batista and Booker have become thick as thieves. Sunday dinners at Ruby’s have become our favorite day of the week. It gives us time to catch up with everyone and strengthen our families.

“Okay, I’m ready,” Sydney says, coming into the room.

I turn around and she has on a coral colored, form fitting dress with a loose neckline, and spaghetti straps. The neckline stops right above her breasts, leaving just enough for the imagination. She has her hair in a sleek bun on the top of her head with bangs. She looks fantastic, I couldn’t take my eyes off her.

Sydney’s eyes scan me from head to toe.

“Do you like what you see?” I tease, posing in my black Armani suit.

“Oh, I like and I’m sure there might be other ladies out tonight who will too. Maybe I should keep you in for the night,” she jokes back, walking to the mirror.

“I could say the same thing, but I love having my beautiful Queen on my arm for all those to see knowing they could never have you.”

She snickers, saying, “Oh, trust me, I feel the same way. I wish a heifer would think she had a chance with my Ragin’ Cajun.” We laugh.

As she sits her small matching clutch purse on the stand, she holds out her hand to me. “Dom, can you help me put my necklace on?”

“I will, but not that one,” I replied.

Sydney places her other hand on her hip. “So, if not this one, then what other one because this is the one I picked out for this dress.”
