One step at a time.

"It's getting crazier," Issac says, nodding at the television. "They sure don't want the pack legislation to pass."

"It's a little unreal, since some of the politicians are alphas," Jude says, taking a seat in one of the other club chairs. "At least a few of them have to be part of a pack."

"They don't like change," Riggs says, shrugging. "It's been a huge push with the younger generation to embrace the pack lifestyle and branch out in terms of marriage rights. I bet it drives the old bastards crazy. They're afraid to lose their hold on the country."

"That's part of it, I'm sure," Jude says, nodding as he studies the screen.

The story continues to play about some of the more conservative groups and militias. How they'll fight to protect the sanctity of their values.

"Here's an idea," I muse. "If they don't want to join a pack, then don't fucking join one. But why do they need to bar the rights of others? Honor Freedom, my ass." I refer to the guy giving an interview on screen. He's got a real close-minded vibe and a t-shirt that saysHonor Freedom.

"If it goes against conservative family values, they don't want any part of it," Baby grumbles, nuzzling close to my chest. "But they can't just be quiet about it. No, they have to try to force everyone else to conform to their viewpoint."

"I have a feeling things are about to get real interesting," Riggs muses, putting the empty bowl of ice cream down on the coffee table. "You're sure you guys want to do shows while they're threatening to protest?"

Issac shrugs. "Someone's got to get the younger generation hyped enough to show up to vote. You know the old fuckers will be out to vote in droves."

"That's true," Baby mumbles. She promptly closes her eyes, falling asleep on my chest. I hold her close and fall asleep, too.

Chapter Thirty-Eight

Jude Walker

Love looks miserable. She's getting really close to her due date, and her face is a bit puffy with extra water weight.

The look she puts on to convince the guys that she's fine reminds me of something my mom would do.

I'm not ashamed to admit it. I'm a momma's boy. My mom is fucking amazing. She raised eight kids with a smile glued to her face. Up until I was seventeen she was perpetually pregnant, or it felt like it anyway.

I'm no expert, but I'd say Love's going to have that baby any day now. She's supposed to have a little less than two weeks left. I don't think she'll make it to her due date. Not with the aches she's been having on and off the last two days.

I'm shocked she didn't stay home tonight. The guys would have understood, but she was determined to come with them.

There's something about seeing Love big and pregnant that makes my dick uncomfortably hard. The fact she's pregnant with another man's baby doesn't change my interest. Not one bit. She feels like mine. That protective and caring vibe immediately passes on to the baby because the baby is a part of Love.

"Do not leave her side until we get off stage," Issac grumbles at me. He's not happy to be doing this performance. Dexter doesn't seem thrilled either.

In my opinion, they should have planned better and not booked any shows or appearances so close to her due date. Although I'm not an expert when it comes to the music industry. Maybe they didn't have a choice. I know this show wasn't planned like the last few were. I guess maybe they had to say yes when Jamen Jacobs asked them to cover for another band. I've got no clue, but I'm annoyed. She should be at home, resting.

"I won't," I tell Issac, keeping my voice low to avoid Love hearing. "I think she's gonna pop any day."

"Christ," Issac says. "Don't tell me that. I gotta go out there and put on a show."

"Sorry," I whisper. "Just don't be shocked if it's sooner than expected."

"Fuck," Issac says, blowing out a breath. "Stay with her, please, man?"

"Of course," I say.

"Thanks, Jude," Issac replies.

He actually pulls me into his chest for a hug. It's strangely comforting. Issac and even Dexter are starting to feel like family. Like pack.

"Ugh, life is too hard right now." Love groans, trying to stand.

"Here, darlin', let me help with that." I give her an easy grin.
