"What?" I ask. A real jolt of fear floods my system. That's not good. "Where are my guys?"

"They're safe," Jude assures me, jogging down the hallway. "Vince is with them. They're in a huge group with Northern Star and About Last Night. They've got security, but the protestors are between them and us. Don't worry. The police are on site."

I frown as my lower back aches, and my stomach tightens. I just peed, but I'm pretty sure I have to go again. Now would be a terrible time to go into labor. I tenderly rub my belly, but it feels as hard as a rock.

"Don't worry," Jude says, coming up to my other side and helping me along. "I've got you, and everything is going to be okay."

He says the words, but he sounds unsure. Jude never sounds uncertain, and my panic ratchets higher and higher.

Chapter Forty

Issac Matthews

Ipace back and forth like a caged lion. If something doesn't change real motherfucking quick, I'm likely to pounce like one, too.

Dexter and I finished our set, but the fuckwad security assholes locked us down right as Northern Star was about to take the stage.

They've got all of us in one of the big green rooms, and the longer they fuck around, the angrier I get. What Walker said right before they ushered us to the outdoor stage plays over and over in my mind. I'm a goddamn pressure cooker about to explode.

"The number of protestors has tripled," Leon says. He's the rep from Ruined Records. He's here to organize all the artists from the label. "They're turning the protest into a free-for-all as we speak."

"My woman has been having pains for days. We did what we came to do. You can't fucking keep us here," I hiss.

Or keep me from getting to her,I add silently to myself.

"Let's just go," Dex says, echoing my thoughts. He's still shirtless and in the leather pants we always perform in. He tiesback his hair and makes eye contact with me. "They can't be blocking the entire route back to the convention center."

"They're inside the barriers," Leon says. He's still texting, and acting like we're being a fucking bother.

"I'm not standing around here waiting for fucking hours," I growl. "Walker thinks she's in labor and is too stubborn to admit it."

"Right, so your security guard thinks she's going to give birth…" Leon rolls his eyes. "How about you ask your girlfriend what she thinks?"

Riggs stomps over. "He was a fucking combat medic. And I know for a fact he's delivered a baby before during a natural disaster deployment. Don't fucking belittle his concerns."

"Love won't make a big deal about things until it's an emergency," I snarl.

I'm about to lose my shit and deck this guy. Jamen will just have to understand. I'd like to see some suit standing between him and Sheena. He'd freak the fuck out, too. Any alpha in my place would be about to fucking blow.

"Every member of the venue security force is out there doing their job. The police are on site. I have no backup to escort you. I can't guarantee your safety," Leon says. "We've got this area secured. If you want to try to make it back to the convention center then I can't stop you. You're adults. You make the call, but I'm saying I can't guarantee your safety once you leave this area."

"That's fine," Dexter spits. "As long as you don't try to stop us."

Dexter and I grew up in a bad neighborhood. Sure, it wasn't the pandemonium going on now, but it wasn't exactly safe to wander around after dark, either.

Nothing short of risking my life will keep me from getting to Love. And that's only because I need to be around for a long goddamn time to take care of her and our baby.

"Are you coming with us?" Riggs asks Sullivan. He's Oakley's drummer friend, and he looks as anxious as I feel.

"Yeah, I need to know Oaks is okay," Sulli says, nodding his agreement. "Fucking hell. I cannot believe this shit."

"I know," Dexter agrees, bouncing on his toes. I know for a fact he's not high, because I watched his ass like a hawk from the moment he woke up this morning. I needed to know if he was going to have cravings related to doing shows.

Warrick, the lead singer for Northern Star, comes over. "We'll come with you," he says. "No guarantees, but we'll do our best to get you and Dex over there."

His brother Ramsey stands at his side. He nods his agreement. "I can't even imagine what you're feeling right now," he says.

I appreciate the sentiment, but that shit does not help settle my nerves.
