"Let's get you down from there, sweetheart," I say, yanking the stool out of the way.

"You say that, but steal my only hope of successfully getting down?"

I laugh. She's obviously cranky.

My arms wrap around her waist, and I lift her with ease. The baby belly brushes my face and shoulder as I carefully lower her to the floor. I might not be as stacked as Issac, but I'm the strong kind of skinny.

I could bench-press Issac or Vince if I had to. Although, if they needed to be carried I'd have to go with the firefighter's carry.

Love blinks up at me.

"Thank you," she whispers. "I was going to call for Issac, but I think he hopped in the shower when he and Vince got back from their run."

"Darlin', I've got your food. Come sit down. Get off your feet." I bite my lip as I study her.

She makes my heart beat funny sometimes. Other times, it's like my mouth goes bone dry.

"Okay," Love agrees, nodding. Her face is red and her eyes are a little puffy.

My fists clench at my sides to keep from pulling her into my arms. It's a battle of wills every day to keep myself from crossing a line. Grabbing a couple bottles of water and the food, I aim for the living room.

Love's robe covers a set of silky black pajama shorts with a matching top. It's insane how far her belly sticks out. She's not even close to full term yet, but it's clear she's miserable.

Dropping all the stuff I'm carrying, I help her get comfortable on the couch.

"Unbidden?" I ask, nodding to the remote.

Love swipes hair away from her face and nods up at me. Her eyes are so damn blue as she watches me from under dark lashes. She takes the remote from my outstretched hand.

Our fingers barely touch, nothing more than a graze. It doesn't change the fact that my heart tries to race right out of my chest. Her skin is silky smooth, so damn soft, the opposite of mine.

My mouth is dry all of a sudden. Swallowing becomes impossible.

Clearing my throat I turn around, digging in the bag of tacos.

She might not be my baby mama, but there's something ingrained in me that makes it impossible not to try to take care of her.

Not that Love isn't capable of taking care of herself. She's independent and outgoing, two traits I find incredibly appealing.

"Here you go," I say, handing her the two steak things she always orders.

"No lettuce and tomato?" she asks, grinning at me.

Like I could forget her order.

I nod, and Love beams.

That look of pure happiness on her face is dangerous for both of us. My stomach does a little flip in response and my pulse skyrockets. There's just something about Love McKinley that draws me in.

I nearly trip over the damn coffee table turning to grab the water.

I settle into the couch and she starts our show.

"You're spoiling me," she says around a bite of food.

"Drink the water," I grumble, taking a bite of my taco.

We eat in companionable silence, watching the show.
