"Yeah," Jude says, clearing his throat. "That seems fair." His cheeks are pink as he grins over at me shyly. That look does crazy things to my stomach.

Sometimes it's really hard not to envy Kitten's stability with her guys. She's got that reassurance that she'll always be enough. It's completely different being a beta. Knowing at any time some biological impulse could kick in and suddenly… all the years of love and friendship might not be enough.

I don't blame Kitten for being an omega. She can't help who she is anymore than I can change the fact I'm a beta. It's just hard. I wish I had the type of security she has with her guys.

Alphas with an omega are complete in a way most of us can't understand.

Vince and Jude are good men who deserve all the happiness they can get in life, but I'm selfish.

I'll keep them for as long as I can.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Jude Walker

"People have to approach me," Love hisses at Riggs. "They're coming up to discuss my art. Not to accost me."

The gallery is a high-end gallery with huge glass walls on two sides of the front of the building. The interior is a bit of a maze, with paneled walls creating corridors to make extra space to display the various art. Hanging spotlights direct the eye to the pieces.

Everything is very trendy.

"It's my half the night as protection," Riggs says, rolling his eyes. "I'm protecting."

I chuckle at that.

It's hardly a bad area. Everyone here is either rich or a hipster. Yeah, he's absolutely protecting her from the grungy hippies in skinny jeans and lumberjack flannel.

"What exactly are you protecting me from? Selling any pieces?" Love sighs, shaking her head at the ceiling. "You're scaring away the patrons."

"He's just trying to get you to switch our places back," I say, snorting a laugh.

"Do you not see the way these rich old fucks are checking you out?" Riggs grumbles.

"They're probably impressed I'm upright and waddling around with this giant belly." Love frowns.

All the color drains from her face and I spin around, taking inventory of the possible threat.

A wealthy older man approaches. He's got so much security flanking him you'd think he's the president. It's when I catch sight of the older woman at his side that my jaw drops. Christ. Love looks just like the older woman making her way toward us.

"Motherfucking dick-bag alert," Riggs murmurs. He instantly steps up close to Love's side.

"Do not actually kick him in the balls. I am amending my previous statement. He totally looks like the type to have you arrested," Riggs says to Love.

"Baby, how are ya, honey?" the chubby older man asks. He's mostly gray, but has a full head of hair. He's about Riggs' height, maybe an inch or two shorter. His cheeks are rosy red.

"Daddy," Love says, leaning heavily against my chest. "What a surprise. Where's Vanessa?"

"You didn't tell us you were in town," the older woman says. Her tone is condescending and haughty all at once, and I have to fight the urge to growl at her.

"Only until Sunday morning," Love says, frowning.

"Introduce us," Love's dad says.

"My father, the former Governor of Tennessee, Sawyer McKinley the third and my mother, Mirabella McKinley," Love says. "This is Vince Riggs and Jude Walker. Am I supposed to mention you're running for Senate, or is that only if you get elected?"

"No need for such formalities," her father says, his eyes appraising the three of us.

Riggs nods hello. He's busy watching her father like he's a threat. That sends my hackles right up.
