Page 96 of No Omega Needed

"Yeah, definitely."

Kitten's guys exit the VIP room of Dave's bar. Ryder St. James gives us a jaunty little wave and his signature smirk. His shaggy blond hair sticks up wildly. He grins over at Kitten.

That man is head over heels in love with her.

"All right, couple up and dance," Lachlan York calls out, cupping his hands around his mouth.

Lachlan is another cutie. A bit skinny for my taste, but he's got that slender athletic build like Walker and Dex. He's also hysterical. I don't even think he does it intentionally, but he's one funny guy.

Issac laughs. Spinning me around, he nods over to Riggs and Walker.

Riggs is trying to pull Walker in to dance. Walker looks mortified, slapping away Vince's meaty hands.

Issac's warm chest shakes against my back.

I crack up. Those two are an odd pair.

Being fond of them is one thing, but I know better than to get too attached. At least long term. There really are no guarantees for betas.

Issac is different. He's proved himself over the years.

Jude and Vince will eventually find their pack and an omega.

Shaking my head, I clear away that train of thought. Nothing good can come from it. This is a good day. A happy, life-changing moment.

A wide smile spreads across my face as Issac pulls me back around. Pretend you're good for long enough and you might be able to trick yourself into believing it… right?

Lyric's guys have got the whole thing set up.

Lyric is dancing with Jaxon Stormer when I glance her way. That's one hunk of a man.

Although, if he doesn't get his shit together, I may have to sumo wrestle some sense into him. He's a big dude, but for Kitten?

I could take him… probably.

"You ever gonna marry me, Baby Love?" Issac whispers.

My mouth goes dry. It's what he wants. But I'm not a hundred percent sold on marriage in general. My parents wereutterly miserable when I was growing up. Loving and trusting Issac is easy, well up to the point he finds his omega. That's something I can't change so I really try not to dwell on it too often, but it's hard sometimes.

I also don't see why we need that piece of paper to make our relationship, our family, official.

"I'll consider it," I say, grinning at him. Here's hoping the look holds. That he can't see the cracks in my plastic smile.

Issac nods.

We've had this particular disagreement a time or seven.

Issac's mom and dad weren't married, they never got married; Issac is a bit old-fashioned. He wanted us to get married before the baby comes.

That's a horrible idea. First of all, it shouldn't be something that's rushed. Second of all, I'm a beta. Having confidence in what Issac and I share is one thing. But at the end of the day there's no guarantee biology won't destroy us.

Transforming into the ever coveted omega is never going to happen. Being a beta means I'll never be who he's supposed to end up with.

My throat threatens to close up when I think about it. One day Issac's alpha impulses or some insane biological drive could insist he mate with an omega. I have no first-hand experience, but they say it's nearly impossible for the alpha and omega to ignore.

Biology influences smell. An alpha who finds their "perfect compatible partner" in terms of breeding will find that omega's scent irresistible.

Of course, we're not animals. An excellent compatible match for producing offspring doesn't necessarily mean their personalities will vibe. More often than not, though, they do.
