‘What do you think? I’m lifting some fucking heavy weights and getting strong!’

‘Hell yeah. See you in fifteen?’

‘Damn straight.’

‘Fifteen. See you then,’ Mitch said, putting the phone down and gathering his keys.

Mitch took a deep breath. He knew that working out with Chopper would be good for his soul. It always was. The pair of them would banter back and forth, and totally push one another to their limits. That was always the way when Mitch got together with a fellow Daddy.

However Mitch also knew that he really would rather have a boy to settle down with for the evening. The nights could be long, and lonely too. Mitch was lucky that he had a solid network of Daddy friends to hang out with at night. But on the other hand, Mitch knew that this might not always be the case. Each time a Daddy friend of his settled down with a boy, Mitch would gradually see less of them. This was understandable, and Mitchdidn’t hold it against any of his friends - after all, he truly wanted them to be happy. Mitch knew however that one day, maybe not too far off either, he might just be the last single Daddy left…

Jesus.

What am I still doing here?

I need to quit thinking and get moving.

It was time to make the quick journey to Chopper’s gym and start feeling some serious burn.

‘What the hell?’ Mitch said, the sight of a young boy being accosted by an older and angry looking man immediately grabbing his attention. ‘Hey! Hey there! Stop that!’

Mitch was only a block away from Chopper’s gym but this situation demandedimmediateaction. As he bulldozed his way over toward the cute boy and the pissed off looking man, Mitch made some quick judgements.

The boy looked in his early twenties. He was cute, the kind of cute that would make any Daddy look twice or more. He was also distressed and didn’t seem to know how to deal with the elderly gentleman.

Mitch could feel his Daddy instincts rising. Mitch knew he had to get involved, even if it meant only cooling down the obvious heat in the situation.

‘I saidSTOP!’ Mitch snarled, immediately putting his body between the grumpy older man and the much younger boy. ‘Now will someone explain to me what in Cape Daddy’s name is going on here?’

‘He’s being… nasty to me!’ the boy said, a look of genuine upset in his eyes. ‘I was just having fun! It was just a joke! I didn’t know it was his cycle!’

‘He’s a thief and aliar!’ the man interjected, a furiously angry look on his tanned face. ‘Give me one reason to not call the sheriff. Onegoodreason!’

The boy broke down in tears. Mitch sensed that this wasn’t a fair fight. He also could see that the old man was one of Cape Daddy’s infamously salty retirees. Mitch was going to sort this out and make sure that the boy was fine.

‘You, sir. Calm down,’ Mitch said. ‘I will be taking over from here. There is no need to take this matter further. Do you concur with me?’

Come on you old bastard.

You know you overreacted.

Give me the green light…

To Mitch’s relief, the old man relented and huffily walked away and back into his house with the bike alongside him.

Mitch turned to face the boy. He had stopped crying but still looked shaken up. His cute animal print t-shirt and cut-off denim shorts screamedLittle.

‘Thank you,’ he said. ‘My name’s Kane by the way.’

‘Kane, it’s a pleasure,’ Mitch said, his voice booming with pride. ‘But this wasn’t a great situation for you to be in. I thinkyou realize that. You’re coming with me. We need a good old-fashioned talk.’

Mitch held his hand out and waited for Kane to place his dainty little hand in his. The boy paused before duly placing his hand in Mitch’s large palm. Immediately, Mitch felt a surge of electricity between them. There was something about the way the boy’s hand felt in his that told Mitch everything he needed to know. And judging by the look on the boy’s face, he felt the same at Mitch.

This was the kind of rare connection that Mitch knew was possible but hadn’t felt in a very, very long time. There was no way he was going to let this moment pass without seeing exactly what could develop. In his mind, and in his heart too, Mitch sensed something very real was going on.

There was only one place in town that Mitch was taking Kane, and he already knewexactlywhat was on the menu for them too.
