‘Three apples in less than three minutes. Must be a record,’ Taylor said, putting his tiny apple core down on the breakfast tray. ‘I’d love to stay in bed with you, boy. My guydown therewould love to stay too! But, alas, I have business to attend to in town.’

‘Oh stinkers,’ Bodie said, pouting. ‘I wanted to stay in bed with you forever!’

‘And when I say I’m getting up and going to town, I mean webothare!’ Taylor retorted, smiling as he made it clear that it wasn’t a request, but a command. ‘Up!’

Bodie loved it when Taylor let his authoritative streak run wild. It made him want to roll on the floor and kick his legs, anything to make his Daddy spank his butt and teach him a lesson for being a brat. In fact, Bodie was tempted to make Taylor spank him right there and then.

But Taylor was wise to his game…

‘Don’t worry, all punishments earned today will be dished outafter dark,’ Taylor laughed. ‘On your feet and move that cutelittle butt of yours. Cape Daddy may not be the big city, but we like to get things done on time and in good order.’

Bodie got up and did as he was told.

After all, how could he resist when it was his Daddy dolling out the commands?

With Taylor off about town handling his usual business, Bodie was sitting in the Little Diner with his laptop open and a large pot of piping hot coffee next to him.

Daphne Duke, as she liked to do to her favorite new customers, had also given Bodie a complimentary hot fudge cake slice to go with his drink. Bodie felt on top of the world – suddenly he had absolutely no idea why it had taken him so long to make the move from the city to Cape Daddy.

There was a feelgood vibe in the diner, with the jukebox in the corner pumping out some upbeat hits from over the years. Bodie looked around and saw a variety of people sipping their drinks and chomping on their food. Couples. Truckers. Local businessmen. The Little Diner was clearly a place where all types of people came to as part of their daily ritual.

My kind of place.

My kind of town.

And maybe my kind of life from here on in…

Bodie smiled and then got back to work. But before he could answer his first work enquiry of the day, he saw a message pop up on his phone. It was from his new friend, Cody…

Hey! So I think hanging out with you yesterday was totally the best thing ever. I’m not even kidding. Seriously. I can’t wait until you, me and Kane can go to have some fun in the Stuffie Shack together! Kisses, Cody xxxxxxxxxx

Bodie looked up from his phone and smiled. He couldn’t believe how good it was to find such charming, fun-loving Littles who seemed to be on the same page as him.

Cody was rich, seriouslyrich in fact. But unlike the rich kids from high school and college, Cody wasn’t a snob and totally took people at face value. Bodie knew that they were going to be great friends in time.

Cape Daddy was very quickly looking like the greatest decision in Bodie’s life. Speaking of which, Bodie’s phone flashed up again. Except this time it wasn’t from a new friend, or from his new Daddy. It was a message from the removal company. Bodie’s stuff was apparently still stuck in transit and not only that, it had in fact been returned back to the city.

‘What the?’ Bodie said, re-reading the text message to make sure that he had read it correctly. ‘That can’t be right!’

As Bodie was attempting to work out exactly what on earth was going on, he felt a presence standing over him. Looking up to see if it was Daphne Duke returning with another free slice of cake, Bodie couldn’t have been more disappointed.

Itwasn’tDaphne Duke.

In fact, it was the last person on earth that Bodie would have wanted to see in that moment. It was Nigel.

With his slicked back, greasy hair, and snarky smile, Nigel sneered at Bodie with a look on his face that spelled trouble.

Not only was Nigel Bodie’s ex-boyfriend, but he was hiscurrentboss. To say things had been awkward between them since the split was an understatement. Bodie had been more than willing to move on and maintain a professional relationship, despite the fact that Nigel had treated him like crap.

But Nigel hadn’t been so willing to accept the change. So much so that he had made it his mission to exploit Bodie’s good nature and guilt trip him into doing a heap of extra work.

And the way that Nigel had been acting, it was beginning to feel like it wasn’t just extra work that he was going to expect Bodie to do either.

When it came time to leave the city and work from home, Bodie had felt nothing but relief at the prospect of seeing Nigel about ninety percent less than he previously did when he worked in the office.

‘I’ll take a seat.’ Nigel said, not waiting to be invited. ‘What a shithole this place is. I don’t think I’ll risk ordering a coffee. Who knows what crap I’ll get served.’

Bodie blushed with embarrassment.
