Page 16 of Bodie's Game

Taylor furrowed his brow. He would never normally leave a council meeting halfway through, that wasn’t how he operated. But this was different. This situation involved his boy and if there was a chance Bodie was seriously in distress then there was absolutely no chance that Taylor was going to hang around for a second longer.

‘Later. I must go. It’s an emergency,’ Taylor said, gathering his briefcase and striding out of the meeting room without looking back once.

With the sound of gasps and gossipy tongues wagging behind him, Taylor slammed the door behind him and ran to his car.

It was time to get to his Little and Taylor didn’t care how many Central Street red lights he had to drive through to reach him.

Taylor’s Porsche came to a screeching halt outside the Little Diner. He jumped out of the car and immediately made his way inside.

‘Bodie!’

‘Daddy!’ Bodie exclaimed, his face red from crying. ‘You came!’

‘What in the name of Cape Daddy has happened?’ Taylor said, a look of concern on his face as he sat down next to a clearly distraught Bodie. ‘Take a deep breath and talk to me. That’s Daddy’s Orders.’

Bodie explained all about Nigel and his threats.

Bodie also described how horrible Nigel had been in their brief relationship, how Nigel was manipulative and took advantage of him – even threatening to out him as a Little in the workplace.

Taylor wasn’t impressed in the slightest. The thing he hated most in life were bullies and cowards, and Nigel sounded likeexactlythat.

This fucking asshole…

I’d snap him in half if I saw him now.

No one treats my boy like this. No one.

Taylor could feel himself getting angrier and angrier. No one deserved to be treated the way Nigel had treat Bodie. It was a disgraceful abuse of power and Taylor couldn’t abide by those individuals who misused their positions of authority.

Something had to be done. And it had to be done right then.

‘Don’t worry, Bodie, I’m here now,’ Taylor said, bringing in a tearful Bodie for a big cuddle. ‘Daddy is going to make sure that everything is okay. I just need to work out exactly how.’

‘P-p-p-please don’t do anything that will risk your reputation,’ Bodie said, his voice trembling. ‘I don’t want to be a pain or be the reason you can’t run for office someday.’

Taylor managed to smile.

Taylor couldn’t believe how selfless Bodie was being, even in such a traumatic moment in his life. This was one of the reasons that Taylor loved him so much, but he could also see that it was something that those less scrupulous people – like Nigel – could exploit.

But Taylor wasn’t having it. There was no way he was going to let Nigel get away with what he was doing. It didn’t matter one iota to Taylor what any of the citizens of Cape Daddy thought.

It was time to take out the trash and send Nigel packing from Cape Daddy on a one-way ticket. It didn’t matter how ugly things might get, or what damage it could do to Taylor’s public profile.

Taylor may have been a charming Daddy, but he was about to show the world that he could be as tough as all hell too…

Chapter 9

Bodie wasn’t sure about Taylor’s plan. It sounded dangerous, and worse than that it really might harm Taylor’s reputation.

‘A public confrontation? Isn’t there another way?’ Bodie said, taking a sip of his fresh juice, courtesy of Daphne Duke. ‘I’m a bit… scared. Nigel can be… really, reallyhorrible.’

It wasn’t just Nigel that Bodie was afraid of. If Taylor confronted him and his public image took a hit, then Taylor might end up resenting Bodie for it. The last thing that Bodie could contemplate was being the reason that their relationship didn’t work out.

This is tricky.

I want Nigel out of my life.

But I don’t want Taylor to mess up his life in the process…
