“Why is that? Are you planning to throw more knives at me?” His eyes heated, sending a shiver down my spine and making me want to smack myself for always having some type of physical response to him.

I took another retreating step as my breath grew shallow. “If my family finds you here with me, they’ll kill you.”

“That’s the last thing that would happen if they found us together, and you know it.” His lips tugged up at the corner. “Who was the Drakos that came to see you?”

It was on the tip of my tongue to tell him, but then I decided to keep it to myself. The chip was inconsequential, and I wouldn’t let myself become a pawn in this thing between Simon and his cousin.

“I never met with him.”

“You actually listened?”

“Sometimes, I can be accommodating.”

He nodded, and I wasn’t sure if he believed a word I was saying. “I went to Vegas. You weren’t there.”

“Wh…why would you go there?” I couldn’t hide the confusion in my voice.

This made no sense. He’d dumped me.

He stalked forward, his green eyes growing molten like a predator ready to devour his prey.

“My original plan was to make a pitstop here to freshen up before I caught another flight to see you, but our phone call altered things.”

I lifted my hand in a futile attempt to ward him off and continued to move backward. “You made it clear we’re over, remember?”

“Did I? Or did you make an assumption?”

I lifted my chin. “It was deductive reasoning.”

“Well, let’s reason something else out.”

He moved so fast, coming upon me and pinning me to the iron lattice on the wall, that I could barely squeak out a gasp.

I grabbed hold of his forearms, unable to do anything else as the intensity of his presence overwhelmed my senses.

“Do you know what I wanted to do after spending nearly every waking hour for over a month in Thessaloniki dealing with one bullshit situation after another?”

His negotiations were in Greece? This meant he was dealing with the ports and all the builders. Why would he keep this from me?

Instead of asking him my questions, I responded to his question. “What?”

“I wanted to lose myself in your body. I wanted to talk to you about stupid shit and fucking argue with you just so you’d threaten to slit my throat.”

His words had a tinge of panic bubbling up.

“This isn’t a real relationship, Simon. We used to fuck, nothing else.”

“You are mine, Goddess. I made that clear that first night together over four months ago. And when it comes to fucking, there is no ‘used to’ about it. The agreement is one year from the engagement.” His hand slid up to my neck as the other crept around my waist, making my breath accelerate and desire flood my core. “Those ninety or so days prior aren’t part of the equation. That means I have eleven more months to do with you as I please.”

“If that’s true, then you need to figure out this hot-cold shit. I won’t put up with it.”

“Is that right?” He tilted my head to the side, grazing his teeth along the column of my neck, and then bit down, giving me the pleasure-filled pain I craved so much.

I cried out and then whispered, “I hate you for using my body against me when I mean nothing to you.”

“Are you saying I matter to you?” He lifted my hands from his arms and wrapped my fingers around the metal bars above my head.

“I won’t let you matter. This is physical, nothing more.”
