Her attention shifted to me as I moved through the bedroom access to her terrace.

A line formed between her brows, and she cocked her head to the side as if she sensed something wasn’t quite right.

“What’s wrong?”

Taking the chip out of my pocket, I spun it on its edge on the table.

“You tell me.”

Oh,dear God. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The last time I saw that chip, it was in Hal’s hand, and now it spun in a circular dance on my patio table.

And from the cool, emotionless green stare Simon was shooting at me, I was in so much fucking trouble.

“H-how?”

“How is this in my possession?” He smacked his hand over the round disk and moved in my direction, making my heartbeat accelerate. “It came in a package for you today, with a picture of you from your college years.”

“That’s not possible.” I shook my head.

No fucking way. I had people frisked before events. Even now, I made sure everyone went through an electronic scan.

He nodded, getting closer to me. “Your old friend David took a picture of you at one of your games.”

Motherfucker. How the hell could he have gotten something through? I closed my eyes for a few seconds, trying to wrack my brain for when it could have happened.

Then I remembered the party where he’d subbed in at the last minute. He’d arrived right before play. Like an idiot, I believed him when I asked if he’d dropped his key and phone in the front bin.

He was a liar from the beginning.

Clenching my jaw, I gritted out, “I really hate that guy.”

“I’ll take care of that situation. At this point in time, I need to attend to another one.”

My breath grew unsteady, and I took a step back in retreat. And for some illogical reason, the fact he was this level of angry and prowling in my direction had my nipples beading and clit throbbing.

“What situation?” I asked, knowing damn well he meant me.

When he was right upon me, he set his palms on my waist and pushed me back against the terrace wall.

“The situation where the woman in my life decided not to tell me an enemy of mine had something that could hurt her.” He leaned in until his face was a hairsbreadth from mine. “Something that could have significant consequences for her and her family if made public.”

He reached up and gripped my jaw, biting my lower lip hard enough to give a delicious sting. Pleasure-pain coursed deep into my pussy, and my cleft grew slick with arousal.

Why the fuck did I like it so much when he went all aggressive like that?

“Something that would push people to tell me to end what I have with her.”

My desire cooled as I focused on the last part of his list, and a lump formed deep in my gut.

I wasn’t ready for this to end. I still had nine more months.

Oh God, what was happening to me? The thought of us going our separate ways wasn’t supposed to hurt like this.

I swallowed, trying to relieve the burning in the back of my throat, and whispered, “I’m sorry.”
