Hell, no.

“You actually think I’m going to jump from one Drakos to another? Simon isn’t replaceable.”

“Then your family forfeits the trust. Or we can just make it happen now, by divulging your illegal business dealings.”

“A poker chip and one random picture don’t prove anything. Kids do all kinds of things when they are eighteen.”

Annoyance flashed on his face, and he moved in my direction, stopping when he was right upon me.

“What about your friend, David Stafenavos? I’m sure he can dig up information on your current endeavors.”

“Once again, it is the word of a disgruntled former friend, who I refuse to have any form of communication with. You. Have. No. Proof. Your plan has a few holes.”

He grabbed hold of my hair, jerking me out of the chair, and sending a shockwave of pain through my scalp. “This hellion act won’t work with me. I’m not soft like Simon.”

“That is the last thing anyone would say about him.” I dug my nails into Hal’s arm, drawing blood, and then bit out, “You’re dead when he gets here.”

Correction. He was dead when I fucking got my hand on my blade. I planned to gut the motherfucker into tiny little pieces.

He shook off my hand, forcing me facedown onto the high sideboard table. “It’s his death you need to worry about. There is a high chance his meeting hasn’t gone as planned. Then you’ll have no choice but to honor the contract with me.”

All the blood drained from my face. No, Simon was too smart to walk into a trap.

“Keep dreaming. Your father tried to kill him before. I doubt you’ll do any better a job than he did.”

His hold in my hair tightened as he leaned down and seethed through gritted teeth, “Outside of your looks, I can’t understand what Simon sees in you.”

Just as I was about to respond, someone came out of the primary bedroom and announced, “The lockbox isn’t here. She must have given it to her friend Akari.”

“Then send someone to retrieve it,” Hal ordered.

Justin hesitated as a frown marred his face. “She’s essentially Draco Jackson’s granddaughter.”

“I don’t give a fuck who she is.”

Hal couldn’t be so stupid. He had to know Draco would take it personally if anyone thought to go near Akari. He had people watching her day and night.

“It could start a war.”

“We’re already at war. What is one more?”

What a dumbass.

When Hal pulled me back, eyes blazing and fury on his face, I realized I’d spoken my thought out loud.

“This dumbass isn’t the one who left his woman unprotected.”

That was when I caught Stevie’s nod, telling me it was time to stop my verbal game of bratty socialite and bring out my inner Harley.

I had no clue what Stevie had accomplished while I kept this idiot occupied, but I understood my part in this whole charade.

Though, I’d never actually done it on a human.

Livestock, yes. Humans, no.

Taking a deep breath, I set one hand on my thigh as I clutched at the one Hal maintained on my scalp, letting him believe he had control of me.

As he took a step back, I pretended to stumble, grabbed the hilt of the blade resting comfortably in the sheath strapped to my inner thigh, and then, a second later, I sliced straight through Hal’s side.
