The fucker made it sound as if we were on the verge of some major crisis, but from the intel Kasen had given me, they had nothing brewing at the moment.

On the other hand, I was neck-deep in clearing the last of Albert and Hal’s supports within my house and those who claimed to be my allies. Eliminating Albert and Hal had made it harder to identify everyone, but it would happen.

“We’ll get to it. Why don’t you get comfortable? We have some important matters to discuss.”

“Move it along. I have other things on my agenda today besides wasting time with you.”

Nyx was scheduled to arrive anytime this morning, and my plans involved us leaving for a trip on one of my ships off the coast of Maine.

“Yes, I heard about your upcoming weekend sea voyage.”

His tone had me pausing, as did the annoyance on the faces of the other Mykos brothers.

Tyler moved toward me, opened a folder, and then positioned a set of photos in front of me. Each of the pictures showed Nyx and me at various places in Vegas. Thank God none of them were of us from that damn balcony.

Fuck.

I glanced around and realized Phillip Mykos was absent from the meeting. The fact he wasn’t present made it clear his sons wanted this conversation kept from him.

Tyler tapped the picture with Nyx curled against me as we sat on the terrace of her Las Vegas penthouse. I held her tight and watched her sleep.

It was the night following the aftermath of the bullshit with Hal a month earlier.

She looked so fragile in my arms. She trusted me to protect her, and I’d nearly failed.

Ihadfucking failed. If I’d paid more attention, then she wouldn’t have had to filet the fucker.

I scanned a series of other pictures. Ones where we danced at nightclubs, explored parts of Vegas, and others of us in her greenhouse and cottage.

They damn well knew I was there the whole fucking time.

Dickheads.

There was one thing all of the images proved to anyone who saw them. Nyx was my woman, my weakness. The one way to get to me.

“What are you going to do about it?”

“She’s my fiancée. What is there to do about it? I can spend time with her, and in any manner as I deem necessary.”

“If that’s how you want to play it, we can play it your way.” Tyler leaned back in his chair. “Do you actually think I don’t know what my sister does in Vegas? She’s had her security wrapped around her finger since she was sixteen. I couldn’t trust them to report everything to me. I have my own people mixed in with hers.

“I love my sister and have complete confidence in her abilities and intelligence, but we both know she doesn’t have the ruthlessness necessary to survive the things she likes to dangle her feet into. I know about her clubs, her side businesses, her friendships, and I know about your deal. You son of a bitch. I ought to kill you for doing that to her.”

I gave no outward reaction to his words, only asked, “And you let it play out?”

“Nyx isn’t a little girl. She’s a grown woman. If she got in too far with you, I’d have stepped in.”

“Is that why you’re here? You think she’s in too deep.”

“You both are.” A smirk touched his lips, but the anger in his eyes conveyed how much he wanted to wipe the floor with me. “Didn’t go according to plan, did it, Drakos? It wasn’t supposed to get personal. She wasn’t supposed to matter.”

“Is there a point to this?”

His face grew serious. “If you love her, you let her go. She isn’t cut out for this life. I told you this from the fucking start. All she ever wanted was her freedom. I won’t let you trap her.”

“What makes you think she can’t handle it?”

“She can handle anything, but it isn’t what she wants. Why do you think I sent her to Vegas? She’s too smart to be someone’s arm candy.”
