“So that you know,” I said to her, “if you hadn’t shown up, I would have found you.”

A smile touched her lips. “Good thing I got to you first.”

We made our way to the front of the hotel, where my driver waited with the limo.

The second the doors closed, we reached for each other. Our lips and hands were desperate to touch and taste.

Her mouth was so sweet and intoxicating. We warred for dominance while needing to savor as well as devour and claim.

She pushed at my tux jacket as I glided my palms over the curves of her hips, along her waist, and up to her beautiful heavy breasts, cupping them, molding them.

Fuck, they were perfect.

“Sam,” she moaned as I pinched her sensitive nipples through her dress. “I ache for you.”

Her words sent a primal shot of lust straight to my cock, making it go rock hard. I fisted her hair, breaking our kiss, and jerked her head back.

I grazed my teeth over her lower lip, giving her a slight sting. “You’re mine now, Highness. You’re in my world now. There is no escape for you.”

Before I realized her intent, she jerked her hips and simultaneously shoved my shoulders, flipping me over and pinning my back to the bench seat of the limo.

“I believe you have that wrong.” She loomed over me. “It is more like you’re the prisoner of a queen, and it’s a life sentence.”

I stared into her dark eyes. The impact of her words sat heavily between us.

I’d spent my life learning to rein in my emotion and build an impenetrable wall around my heart. Then with sheer will, she’d shattered my defenses.

“Sam, I mean it.” She leaned down, cupping my jaw. “You said you wanted it all. That’s what I’m offering.”

I sat up, bringing her with me. “Are you fine with giving up your position in society?”

“I’m not giving up anything. I’m retiring.” She lifted a brow as her full lips curved at the corners.

She knew damn well I wasn’t asking about Solon. Plus, the possibility of Devani leaving the organization one hundred percent erred on par with pigs sprouting wings and flying.

“I don’t want you to have doubts.”

“No doubts. I planned to walk away regardless.”

The meaning behind her words hit me like a ton of bricks. She planned to leave everything behind, not just the agency—retirement in all senses.

“When did you make this decision?”

“When I set up the case.” Her face fell for a brief second. “Sam, you were right. I didn’t ask you what you wanted.”

“No, I was wrong for the shit I said. You saw my actions against Shah and took those as cues for what I wanted.”

A frown marred her brow. “I’m not following.”

I closed my eyes, released a breath, and then laid it all out. “I’ve spent my whole life plotting Shah’s fall. I wanted him to suffer for taking my mother from me and my brothers’ parents from them. His death would never have given me the peace I wanted. Watching as he lost everything was the sweetest form of revenge.”

“So, in other words, we’re dumbasses that need to stop doing things on our own and work together.”

“Something like that.” I smiled. “One other thing.”

“Go on.”

“As I said, I don’t want a dime of the billion-dollar Shah inheritance. Besides, I have no claim to it. I’m not the oldest Shah grandchild. I’d rather make sure the rightful heir gets everything.”
