“You ran out. You left without me.”

“Aww … Ford.” I step forward and wrap my arms around his waist. “I gave Molly a lift home. I thought you were okay.”

“Molly … home …” His whole face is screwed up now. “Why?”

“I was pissed over what he did to you, and I went after him to put him in his place, but … he looked kinda pathetic. It made me sad for him.”

Ford chuckles and palms his forehead. “Of course it did.”

“He was heartbroken.”

“No, he wasn’t. He barely knows me.”

I brush a kiss over his lips. “He knows enough. Any man would be lucky to have you, and it so happens that man gets to be me.”

“Yes, it fucking is.” He draws me into a kiss that has me pressing closer, wrapping my fists in his shirt. Ford tugs at the tie of my apron, and when it frees, he abruptly pulls back from the kiss and takes my apron off. “You finished?”

“Just have to get these put away.” I point at the remaining flowers.

“I’ll race you.”

“What—”

But Ford takes off, leaving the orchids on the counter as we compete to see who can pack away the fastest, and almost as soon as the final bucket is back in the cool room, he grabs my hand and drags me out front.

“Where are we going?” I ask.

The only thing we pause for is to grab the flowers and for me to lock up.

“It’s a surprise.”

“Mysterious,” I say, but he still doesn’t tell me.

Ford holds my hand, leading me down the street toward—

“The garage?”

He winks at me. “I’ve been busy today.”

“I thought Saturdays were your day off?”

“I haven’t been working on cars. I’ve actually been working on a way to win back your heart and prove how much I love you, but since you’re not actually mad at me … it makes this even better.”

“Why?”

“Because now I can show you with no pretenses. No reasons. Just because I really wanna.”

“Show me what?”

Ford hands over the flowers. “These are for you.”

“Kinda figured.”

“You mean the cousin’s uncle’s grandma’s excuse didn’t throw you off?”

“Not in the slightest.”

I take the flowers, smile pulling at my face. “Considering you practically keep me in business, I think this is the first lot you’ve ever given me.”
